It is a profoundly sad moment for our nation following the passing of Kenya’s former Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, earlier today.

Indeed, Mr. Odinga was the most consequential political figure of our time. Throughout his distinguished career, as a Member of Parliament, Cabinet Minister, and Prime Minister, he steered some of the most transformative reforms that reshaped the social and political fabric of our country.

What will forever define Hon. Odinga’s legacy was his untiring selflessness. He consistently placed the nation above self and all else. He made decisions not because they were popular or convenient, but because they were right.

He was a man of firm conviction, who believed that a country can only prosper when constitutionalism and the rule of law precede any other ambition. Yet, he was pragmatic enough to build consensus when the country’s unity and progress demanded it.

On a personal level, Hon. Odinga was my friend and confidant; a leader whose wisdom, generosity, and counsel I deeply cherished.

Therefore, to attempt to eulogize the Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga is to accept the inadequacy of words to capture the depth of his impact, his sacrifices, and his towering influence on our democracy. We have lost a leader, mentor, patriot, and father to many.

On behalf of the entire Moi family and the KANU fraternity, I extend our heartfelt condolences to his beloved wife, Mama Ida Odinga, his children, Rosemary, Winnie, and Junior, as well as his brother, Dr. Oburu Odinga, during this moment of profound sorrow.

We stand with them in prayer and solidarity, trusting that God will grant them strength and comfort to bear this great loss.

May the Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga rest in eternal peace.

TRIBUTE TO PRIME MINISTER, THE RT. HON. RAILA AMOLO ODINGA, EGH

My heart is heavy beyond words. The passing of the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, EGH, has left a void – one that is difficult to articulate.

He was not merely my party leader or a respected elder; he was so much more a mentor, a guide, and a father figure.

From as far back as 2004, when I was still finding my footing in politics, Baba held my hand when no one knew who Hassan Joho was. He saw something in me that I couldn’t yet see myself.
He nurtured me and taught me the true meaning of leadership and service.

Under his mentorship, I learned that politics was not about power or fame , it was about people, about justice, and about standing firm even when the storms rage.

He moulded me into the leader I am today. In my moments of uncertainty, it was his wisdom that provided stability. In times of doubt, his quiet strength and unwavering belief in purpose inspired me. He was my compass.

Kenya, and indeed all of Africa, mourns the loss of a giant. Rt. Hon. Odinga dedicated his life to advocating for dignity, decency, accountability, transparency, justice, and for the establishment of a truly democratic society.

He was a torchbearer for political reforms, sacrificing so much so that future generations could live in a freer, fairer nation. The democratic space we enjoy today was largely carved by his relentless courage and sacrifices. Kenya has lost a true statesman, who was a pillar of courage, resilience and conviction.

Today, as I struggle to come to terms with this loss, I have a strong conviction that Baba’s spirit will forever live in the heart of every Kenyan who dares to dream of a just and prosperous nation.

To Mama Ida, the larger Odinga family, and the ODM Party, please accept my heartfelt condolences.

Rest well, Baba. Your journey has ended but your legacy has just begun to shine even brighter. I will carry your teachings in my heart, your vision in my work, and your courage in my service to this Great Nation.

We are blessed to live in a country that has been shaped by the will, the leadership, and the vision of the Right Hon Raila Odinga.

With an unshakable faith in the values of our country and the character of our people, Hon Raila Odinga fought for our democracy and led the path towards our new constitutional order.

A peacemaker who always put country first, his optimism, strength, and humility epitomised the Kenyan spirit.

Hon Raila Odinga always believed that our best days are yet to come. His was a path walked with conviction. He bore the scars of struggle with dignity, knowing that freedom was not free and that truth often demands sacrifice.

His life was a testament to the enduring power of a vision grounded in the ideals of democracy, justice, and unity. He was a man who refused to accept the easy path when the right path was harder.

There can be no doubt that Hon Raila Odinga was the most significant leader of our democratic experiment. He carried himself with courage and grace and his voice, sometimes fiery, sometimes soft, always echoed with purpose.

Hon Odinga is no longer with us, but he has left us stronger and better. We take comfort in the knowledge that he has gone to a better place, a place where rest awaits him. His legacy in Kenya, Africa and on the world stage - as a patriot, a pan-Africanist, and a global statesman - is written in the sands of time.

A quintessential progressive and reformer, he fought for the ideals of human rights, democracy, the rule of law and inclusivity and economic opportunity for all until he breathed his last.

l have lost a big brother, a mentor, a confidant and a selfless patriot. Every time l needed wise counsel, I turned to him time and again. He never once failed me and told me the truth every time, even when the truth was hard.

He has left us a solid foundation built on the rock of faith. It is on that foundation that we shall find our way forward, inspired by his example, his legacy and optimism that our future is great.

From my immediate family, Rachel and the children, we want to assure Mama Ida, Rosemary, Raila Junior, Winnie, Senator Oburu and the entire Odinga family that we stand with them in this moment of grief. Above all, l urge all Kenyans to join hands as we celebrate the incredible legacy of this towering figure in our history.
