We are heartbroken by the news that a @Reuters journalist was killed & others from @AlJazeera & @AFP were injured by artillery while covering clashes in south Lebanon. Protecting journalists is a concern for all of us. As journalists stand up for truth, we stand with them.
Fellow journos, I’ve a favor to ask.
I’m hoping you can help me spread the word about a new(ish) journalism contest, and yeah, you’re probably thinking: Do we really need another journalism contest?
This one’s different. It’s a worldwide contest, called the True Story Award.

WATCH: Check out this great tribute piece for my father's induction last night into the RI Radio & TV Hall of Fame by @tednesi and @johnnyvillella. It's not easy to tell Jack White's story in a little over two minutes... but they did my dad proud.

Back @myrwu for the second annual @spj_tweets Northeast Journalism Institute.
Students from across the region are in Rhode Island for a four-day immersive journalism experience covering stories from the coastal landscape.
Their work will be published by tomorrow and I’ll share links.

Field work: Student-journalists in the @spj_tweets Northeast Journalism Institute spent time with @myrwu History Professor Autumn Quezada-Grant news gathering and interviewing about the impact of the slave trade in Bristol, #RhodeIsland. #SPJHSSummer
Almost 9p on a Saturday and students are working hard on video edits for their #SPJHSSummer projects. Faculty guiding. Student coaches are audibly and visibly proud. Smiles. Clapping.
This is collaboration and team work at its finest and I know they’ll experience this one day in college and pro newsrooms for years to come.
This is what makes @spj_tweets great. This is what we as an organization should focus on … more of this. 👏🏻
