🌀⚡️ BLUE IMPULSE 🧠🌀
This is breathtaking to watch.
What really stands out to me — and I must say accounts like @Blue_Footy and a few others have hinted at this too — is that this Chelsea squad has already been quietly prepared for this kind of football during the Maresca era.
1️⃣ Alonso’s preferred 3-4-2-1 actually aligns closely with Maresca’s flexible 4-2-3-1, which often became a 3-4-2-1 structure in possession anyway.
2️⃣ The positional principles are already embedded in many of these players. Rotations, spacing, occupation of zones, build-up patterns… these are things the squad has already been exposed to consistently.
3️⃣ The aggressive pressing off the ball also fits naturally with what we saw under Maresca when key profiles were fit. Performances against sides like PSG and Barca showed flashes of how effective this team can be in coordinated high-pressure systems.
4️⃣ Most importantly, our strongest XI — and even the core backups — already suit this structure surprisingly well.
What I personally think happens next is targeted profile completion rather than another full tactical rebuild.
Aside from integrating talents like Barco and Quenda, who naturally suit this style, I believe Chelsea will prioritise bringing in 2 or 3 real leaders in key zones:
🔹 Centre-back
🔹 Attack (especially LW)
🔹 Possibly an experienced midfield presence
If that midfield signing happens, a loan for Essugo to accelerate development would also make sense.
There is genuinely a lot to be excited about with this direction.
Now the expectation shifts to the board:
If you appoint a coach with this level of tactical identity, you must fully support the project in the transfer market and build the right ecosystem around him.
Chelsea may finally be moving toward a coherent football identity again.
But stability and support from the top will be key. 🔵
