Below is a summary of the entire book (Coddling) in one table, from the concluding chapter. The difficulties facing Gen Z are now much more apparent than when @glukianoff and I wrote this 4 years ago.
Given the roughly $1500 per day cost of a hospital bed, it is easy to see that this becomes an expensive problem rather quickly.
Investments in affordable housing are needed.
I’ve just recently encountered a patient with this exact story. Cannot find affordable housing and blatantly said they would choose MAiD if they were eligible. The primary reason they are still admitted is their housing situation.
Yet ANOTHER person has chosen Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) because they couldn't access affordable housing...It's worth repeating: There is something severely wrong with a society where it is easier to die through MAiD than it is to find safe, affordable housing.

My framework for exercise is built upon four pillars: stability, strength, aerobic efficiency, and anaerobic performance.
Last week, we discussed stability. For this week’s content roundup, we'll take a closer look at the second pillar: strength. https://t.co/9ty8PQSvce
Why I'm for COVID vaccines, but against vaccine mandates. https://t.co/S5GQHnCTRx
In the heated debate over vaccine mandates, science and logic have often been lost amid politics and fear.

The ICU of this hospital in Sarnia, Ont., has been overwhelmed with mostly unvaccinated COVID-19 patients — and some, like Randy Samms, will go home with a new perspective. | More TONIGHT on The National
From The Atlantic yesterday. I’ve had Paul Offit on my podcast, and he is about as pro-vaccine as one can be, and yet he clearly sees the risk of over vaccinating young people. Why is this such a taboo subject? https://t.co/7Aj8RySIDt
@CoozeJane Speculating here but it is likely because Moderna has at least 3-4x risk of myocarditis over Pfizer, and this primarily impacts males less than 30 years old
Saw my first MAiD patient today, and while on the one hand it was a very sad and emotional experience, it was also a beautiful moment filled with love. I am so glad this service is available for those who need and want it.

On a positive note, working firsthand in the Janeway ED, I have witnessed firsthand the impressive resilience and adaptability demonstrated by frontline healthcare workers during this difficult situation. Truly impressive!
The cyberattack on NL’s healthcare record system is deeply disturbing. The impact of this will no doubt be enormous for an already strained system.
Ultimately it is the patients who suffer the most. Waiting so long for appts, only to have them cancelled or postponed.
I hope this gets fixed soon. I hope we get answers about how this could have happened in the first place, so that it can be prevented from happening again.
The public will need answers if we are to maintain trust in our institutions.
