I don’t look at the exchange rate between the rand and pound and jump for joy cos I’m here with pounds(over 24 today).
It makes me sad knowing how good SA is and yet the leadership doesn’t reflect that.
Hard working South Africans are financial prisoners in SA and there is NO WAY it should be this way.
Sun, sea, food, wine, mountains, medical centres, minerals, safari and a perfect time zone.
South Africa should NOT be anywhere near 24 on the pound!
My greatest wish for 2024, is that SA is in a much better position come Jan ‘25. 🙏🏽
That's right! @dricusduplessis has done it! He is officially the new UFC Middleweight champion of the world. I'd like to try explain why this is a big deal, not only for Dricus, but for South Africa as a country 🇿🇦❤️ For those that don't follow MMA that closely, you have to understand that the UFC has become one of the biggest sports organisations around the world.
Added to this, I think they have one of the best marketing strategies which they execute to perfection. As a result, when someone like Dricus becomes a champion in one of their most popular divisions, there's going to be a lot of spotlight on our country.
As it stands right now, he is superstar and his fame is about to shoot through the roof. He's also going to become very wealthy by breaking into that top tier of the sport. The best part is, all of this is deserved.
But to go one further, Dricus is also incredibly patriotic towards South Africa. Even in the heat of the moment, the first thing he did after he won was ask his coach for the SA flag. And he's been consistent in his love for South Africa from day one.
I mention this for an important reason. With the UFC having the craziest reach and Dricus becoming champion, South Africa is about to be in the spotlight with a lot of people that don't know too much about our country. Again, I can't overstate the marketing reach of the UFC which is such a win for our country.
And then it goes even further. Now that Dricus is the champ, there is a very real possibility that the UFC comes to South Africa. Should this happen, South Africa will be in an even greater spotlight and a UFC Main Event in SA means a real boost in tourism.
Obviously, Dricus becoming champion is amazing for Dricus, but Dricus becoming champion is also incredible for our country. And because he loves this place so much, I believe he wouldn't have it any other way.
If you do anything in the next few weeks, start following UFC on YouTube and just see how much attention South Africa is going to get alongside Dricus. This is a big deal and if he keeps fighting like he did this morning, our country benefits in the biggest way possible.
We really should be proud of this guy. He kept his word and he's bringing the belt back to SA. He stayed strong mentally and he didn't back down in that octagon. I'm still trying to calm down after how close that fight was but I think we're all going to be on a high for quite some time.
Dricus, you are a legend! I can't say thank you enough for the way you've flown the flag of this country. We all know things can get pretty crazy at times in South Africa which is why your win is such a big deal. Now go grab a beer and celebrate. You deserve to take it all in 🇿🇦❤️
PS. I will go into much more detail in another post about the reach of UFC and how this will impact South Africa, but for now I'm going to celebrate what just happened at #UFC297 like we all should. The UFC numbers are staggering 🤯
Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter did this interview with me at great personal cost - soon after his poisoning. He is brutally frank and his testimony is astonishing. R1 billion “lost” to the utility every month. Watch on @etv on Tuesday at 10 pm . #MyGuestTonightWithAnnikaLarsen
Andre De Ruyter is a national hero for having the courage and conviction to stand up against the criminal syndicate that is the ANC national government. I applaud and thank him for showing the bravery we all need to fix South Africa.
@stephenjones9 IF that is true and I am not saying it is or isn't but if that is true...couldn't this post lead to threats against Rassie and his family? #DevilsAdvocate
@RassieRugby howzit, guys have done wonders with the Bokke, but the guys can't be slaves to the system, why are we kicking ball away in the 76th minute of a game when we are more than a try behind? I don't understand the logic? Don't we trust our skillset?
As if a player is not under enough pressure to perform @cricketworldcup - now this - should it not be up to the individual? Respect @Quintondekock17 https://t.co/canQSlBknv
It's been a privelage to share the cricket field with you bud. Best in the business. You have given your all for so long and deserve to sail into the sunset on ur surfboard and be proud of everything what you achieve on the field. The game will miss you. ❤️🐐
I‘ve never waded into online political waters. I’m saddened and disappointed at this rage around Jesse correctly standing next to his Centre partner Andre Esterhuizen. This has ALWAYS been the case. Can we just calm down, learn the game, before entering the victim Olympics.
We cheapen his achievements by assuming he’s a non-entity with no agency. It’s become clear that we are waiting to find things that offend us. You have every right to term someone a racist or a bigot...but only when you have engaged the individual/s concerned.
Today I am once again ashamed to be a South African, as I was when the xenophobic attacks broke out. I’ve had the privilege of getting to know most of these young men. They’ve done more for this country than most. #my2centsworth
Seabelo Senatla’s raw pace. Cecil Africa’s vision. Kyle Brown’s workrate. Werner Kok’s strength. Kwagga Smith’s moustache. This @Blitzboks team is magnificent. On to the final we go!
