The best case for the JCPOA is that Obama bet implementing the deal would moderate Iran. Otherwise by 2030 you'd have a Death to America regime flush with cash and weapons, and no limits on enrichment.

Critics said it wouldn't.

We know who was right. Biden ran the experiment.

The JCPOA required the U.S. to suspend sanctions on Iran's oil sales and nuclear program, and at the international level U.N. Security Council Resolution 2231 locked it in and terminated U.N. sanctions. Trump reversed those concessions and imposed maximum pressure. Biden reversed the Trump policy and re-implemented the deal: he allowed Iran to sell oil at above JCPOA levels, issued waivers suspending Congressional sanctions against Iran's nuclear work, and went to the U.N. to restart UNSCR 2231.

While Biden was implementing the deal, the Iranians provided Russia with the drones they used to stall the Ukrainian pushback in 2022, started the Oct. 7 war with Israel in 2023, and built their way to a nuclear arsenal. They did not moderate. They escalated.

Biden quite literally tested the best case for the JCPOA, and it just isn't true. It was also catastrophic on a global scale, but in addition to being catastrophic, the argument just isn't true.

Take the long view on this. The list of legitimate and worthwhile government expenditures is short and working on cutting everything else is good and important but preventing blackmail of the government makes the list. If you can do it cheaper, great.

I don't feel sorry for Hunter and Ashley Biden any more than anybody else. But there actually is a reason that these figures get protection: if harm can come to a President's family, people will leverage Presidents or try to.
