fans want to see change in MLB. to that effect, payroll disparity has been a core issue on this front for years. that said, i do not think a salary cap is the solution.
my newest for @JustBB_Media explores why i believe this and lays out both sides of the issue. give it a read!
Ahead of next year's looming CBA negotiations, discourse about the possible institution of a salary cap has taken center stage for MLB fans.
Our @ryanmurphy476 tells us why a salary cap is not the sole solution:

Tarik Skubal underwent elbow surgery May 6.
One month and one day later, he threw five scoreless innings on 54 pitches and punched out six at High-A.
Maybe Skubal is just that guy, but if nanoscope technology halves the return time from bone-chip injuries, what an advancement.
Awesome: At his rehab start with the West Michigan Whitecaps, Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal plans to spoil the minor-league players.
He said he'll provide a coffee cart -- but then the two-time reigning Cy Young winner said he'll be a resource for any of them who want help.
As the upcoming CBA negotiations come into focus, it's worth exploring the last time a salary cap was proposed in MLB: the 1994 CBA standoff.
Our @ryanmurphy476 has more on how things played out and what we can learn from it:

Zyhir Hope has been a hitting machine, and he's found a new level of consistency lately.
With another two-homer game, MLB's No. 19 prospect is standing out, even in a #Dodgers farm system loaded with outfielders: https://t.co/xQygzOABoV
Since 1910, only two pitchers have allowed 5 or fewer earned runs in their first 10 starts of the season (min. 50 IP):
2021 Jacob deGrom
2026 Shohei Ohtani 🦄
He’s unreal.
The Dodgers and Mets spent within $1M of each other over the last 5 years. $1.752B vs $1.751B
The Dodgers won 67 more games. That's more than 15 extra wins every season!
I came in skeptical of the competitive balance argument for the cap. This is part of why.
So MLBPA is saying the owners' cap proposal includes amateur signing bonuses. I haven't seen that reported anywhere else, but if they are included, that makes the deal horrendous. That's another ~$500 mil in player compensation not included below.
CT3, Clutch Taylor, World Champion.
Thank you Chris for all of the unforgettable moments in Dodger Blue. Congratulations on a memorable career and we wish you the best in retirement!
The head of the MLBPA on Monday railed against the league's first labor proposal. Commissioner Rob Manfred is expected to speak Wednesday at the conclusion of owners' meetings in New York. In the meantime, Alden has an excellent overview of the latest, free at ESPN.
Bruce Meyer, Exec Director of the MLBPA on MLB's proposed 50/50 revenue split:
"It's not even a real 50%. It's taking billions of dollars off the top before they're proposing to even share any of that in terms of player share, what counts against player share, and their proposal is everything: salaries, of course, all forms of benefit, other things of value, things like moving costs, and the cost of translators.... All of that gets counted against player share, and most importantly, most significantly, amateur signing bonuses, which is something you really don't have an analog to in the other sports that have salary caps."
Another Josue De Paula roundtripper!
The @Dodgers' top prospect (MLB No. 8) has his first multihomer game of the year, 3rd 4-hit contest for the @TulsaDrillers.
MLBPA interim exec director Bruce Meyer holds up the Padres as the example for all teams: "We want to encourage more San Diego's. San Diego is a small market team that went out, decided to compete, signed a lot of players. Turned around their franchise...they are successful. They've grown attendance, they've grown interest, and we've all seen the explosion of their franchise value."
