Per @ChrisCotillo, Craig Breslow nearly became a part of the organization after the 2018 season (brought up by @JustinMLB in our latest episode of @PodByTheRiver):
“The Red Sox went into the sit-down with high hopes of hiring Breslow before he — according to an industry source with knowledge of the conversations — irked club executives by presenting a self-made job design for a powerful, broad role within the organization and came off as inflexible instead of being open to other roles the team might have had in mind. Boston’s team of experienced, championship-winning officials quickly realized there wasn’t a fit for Breslow, who some in the organization thought had asked for too big of a role considering his complete lack of front office experience.”
Lot of people are going to dislike this… but Sloan’s comp is pitcher Shohei Ohtani.
Heavy cut 4S, similar release traits, sweeper-split, similarities in their deliveries.
Ohtani’s sweeper is just better than Sloan’s.
Just a reminder that a salary cap and floor will not fix baseball’s root cause.
Owners have already created a system that guarantees profits, regardless of whether their teams are good or bad. You can almost guarantee they would create a revenue system that ensures all small-market teams can afford to spend $125 million on salaries and $50 million on benefits/amateur bonuses to reach the floor while still remaining highly profitable, all while making sure the Dodgers maximize profits.
Until you create a system that incentivizes winning and penalizes losing, you will never fix the problem.

Colt Emerson
MLB's No. 6 overall prospect joins exclusive company as the only @Mariners aged 20 or younger with a 4-hit game. And Emerson does it with 3 doubles!
FRANKLIN ARIAS DOES IT AGAIN!
The Boston Red Sox prospect is 3-for-3 with TWO home runs today. He’s hitting .344 (1.075 OPS) with 10 home runs and 27 RBI in Double-A this season.
We just swept the Royals, and Jarren Duran is finally heating up at the plate… yet we’re sitting at 22-27.
The pitching staff has been carrying this team, but the offense remains historically bad and disappears for too many innings at a time.
The window isn’t closed, but it’s closing fast. I laid out the exact checkpoints and the records we actually need to see before “still early” turns into wishful thinking.

Brian Abraham had some interesting comments on why Franklin Arias was pulled from a game last weekend: (via @FenwayRundown):
“I won’t get into too many details. We have expectations and guidelines for our players and it was a manager’s decision. We have to teach these players about their growth as young men, young baseball players, on and off the field and sometimes things happen that we have to make decisions about what is best for them, not only in the moment but for their long-term success.”
@ChrisCotillo Well if you sell off beloved members of that World Series team for a bag of peanuts, people are going to start feeling like you can afford your own drinks again.
Just swept the Royals and Duran is finally raking… but the @RedSox offense is still historically bad. The window isn’t closed, but it’s closing fast.
Stop saying “it’s still early.” Here’s the hard timeline before hope turns into denial
