I like Ilic, but was beyond the scope of my search due to age. Would prefer we go u23. Ivanovic I liked at Millwall. Haven't watched since.

Janneh is pretty poor aerially outside of the box. He was part of my longlist and didn't make it through my funnelling because of that. He's more of a SS.

Wasn't inclined to challenge balls that were in proximity to him, doesn't move when the ball is in the air to get a better postion. He was basically avoiding the duels from goal kicks and long balls.

@MOFPLMOPROBLEMS Wasn't included. Don't rate him like that. Would be a permanent backup and he'd be too expensive given what Burnley want when that's all he'd be.

We want someone capable of challenging DCL this and eventually taking his spot next season.

Variety isn't really what I'm looking for with the CF. We've got a certain way we play in settled play and how Farke uses DCL and I think we need to lean into that for the backup, as we become a far easier side to play against otherwise. I think that's been evident when DCL isn't on the pitch.

The two things you mentioned are aspects of his game I do like though.

Like I said if it's a loan with an option I would take the chance and see how he gets on. I think we could do far worse.

I'd take a gamble on Delap if it's an option so we can give him the opportunity to prove himself. If it's an obligation I don't think I'd be on board as it's a lot of money to tie yourself into if he doesn't perform. Fwiw I do think he could end up being pretty useful, but just not really what I think we actually need at CF.

We'll see though. I don't hate the idea, just don't love it either.

@a_lister2 Really like Cossier. He was someone I was considering for LCB backup.

My thinking is he'll play a fair bit with Lille being in the UCL. 1000-1200 mins this season I hope. Potentially up to 13 90s all comps.

Good squad building ensures the club is recruiting players that play to the team's strengths tactically, removes or lessens variance issues, and enables the team to impose their Plan A on the opposition for the most games possible within that season.

This is why the centre forward signing for Leeds has to be T5 experienced and be the same archetype as DCL.

Signing a runner profile upfront doesn't fit current Leeds from a tactical standpoint. That's not how we play or how Farke utilises his centre forwards in his system.

In order to be as successful as we can be this season, Leeds need to invest in a player that has the experience and maturity to start consecutive games when DCL is injured, but also push for his starting spot as the season progresses. Healthy competition.

We've seen enough evidence with Nmecha (and Piroe) starting how our attacking impetus pales in comparison to when we have a player up top with DCL's skillset. We lack teeth, we struggle to retain the ball, we can't release pressure effectively, we end up defending deeper and deeper, and that all stems from not having a player that can get physical and fight centre backs for punted balls, consistently challenge them aerially, and occupy multiple defenders by giving us that presence up top. Outside of his goalscoring, that's what DCL brings. Assurances.

Assurances that we can impose our Plan A as often as we can by having the archetype that fits our system.

It's the only profile that suits this summer. We can reevaluate it next summer, but right now it needs to be this exact archetype of player.

@ZK1919 I like Emersonn and Embolo. But not sure I like Emersonn as starter and not sure you can trust Embolo to stay fit as a starter in the Prem. We'll see tho.
