This is great to see people calling out the struggles that low income individuals and families face every day. Let’s build a society that makes it easier to overcome those pressures.
Coco Gauff says playing tennis is not real pressure compared to people who are struggling to feed their families:
“I think it's just putting my life into perspective.. I realize in a way it's pressure, but it's not. There are people struggling to feed their families. There are people who don’t know where their next meal is gonna come from, people who have to pay their bills. That's real pressure, that's real hardship, that's real life.”
Great perspective from Coco. ❤️
Congrats to faculty member @PHPaulChand, who was recently named a recipient of the @UMich Anti-Racism Research and Community Impact fellowship.

Rut is amazing! Love to see her jumping into the race to make a difference in local politics! Workforce Development often is viewed as a state or national issue, when in reality its the local focus that gets stuff done!
@HowardSchultz “Starbucks doesn’t need a union. We do nothing nefarious. We put our people first.” WORKERS have the FREEDOM to choose if they organize, companies don’t get to decide if they NEED to. @Starbucks lost their way as a quality employer & workers are calling them on it
This is a brilliant thread on an insightful study. Economic inequities are rising post Covid. The “mental tax” on low income households trying to optimize every dollar is something we see every day @SJIopeningdoors with our participants.
For months I've been wondering about the disconnect between the red-hot labor market & icy-cold consumer sentiment.
Why are Americans, particularly lower-income ones w/ the fastest wage growth, so pessimistic about their finances? What are we missing? 🧵

Great day on the hill talking Snap E&T policy with the super smart SJI consulting team. Thanks to @RepKimSchrier@RepDelBene@RepMGP for the great conversations on how to break the cycle of poverty in our communities
T minus 15 minutes til our first students arrive for Sound Careers in Healthcare 2023! Thanks to @UW for hosting this awesome event back in person for the first time since 2019!
@Groundwork The ideal state for the Fed is 4% unemployment with flat wages. This works for shareholders but not workers. We don’t need more jobs, we need access to better paying quality careers for people in under-invested communities.
@Groundwork The softening of wage growth particularly compared to inflation is the most concerning to me. By sector wage growth appears to have plateaued in hospitality jobs which impact lower income families and young workers the most.
