Interesting wording in today’s #NHLJets email. Rick Bowness didn’t walk back his pushback comments, but the team continues to undermine the head coach.
@kelownasportguy @Kyle_Chorney @OhYesICanada@dantencer Offside has nothing to do with possession or control though. You need to touch the puck. Doesn't matter if you push it a few inches off your stick or dump it 10' ahead.
@Tommyjr26 @lancemcw @cheapseatsvoice @dantencer It's a completely different rule. Offside isn't a judgement call. He needs to touch the puck across the line.
@AndrewT1985@passittobulis@matthewsveinson@ohsnapitysnapz@canuckforcup The whole point of delayed offside is to reduce the number of stoppages in play. The spirit of the "attempts to play the puck rule" is for delayed offside when the offside player continues to persue the puck after the linesman raises arm and gives the opportunity to get onside.
@Real_SlimBrady @lancemcw @cheapseatsvoice @dantencer That's not at all what happened last night. Makar was never off side. Nichushkin was actively attempting to get onside. They're never going to blow it down unless it's touched offside in that scenario. That's how they've always called plays at the line.
@Real_SlimBrady @lancemcw @cheapseatsvoice @dantencer No they don't. In the scenario you're describing, the player is offside. The linesmen will yell offside at him and give him an opportunity to turn back and get onside. He'll only blow it down when it's clear the guy isn't realizing he's offside and is continuing to pressure.
@dunk77ca@OhYesICanada@dantencer No ref at any level is going to apply that to a player who is onside on a bang bang play at the line. That rule is for when a guy is offside and still chasing the puck around and is clearly not attempting to tag up. Makar is onside and Nichushkin is making an effort to get onside
@dunk77ca@OhYesICanada@dantencer You can't touch the puck over the line when someone is offside. It doesn't really matter if you were in the process of stick handling.
