PTI Stands with the People of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Will Not Participate in the Electoral Process Under Current Circumstances

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, while expressing its unwavering solidarity with the aspirations of the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, their right to self-determination, and their democratic rights, has decided not to participate in the elections under the prevailing circumstances. This is a principled stance and an expression of solidarity with the Kashmiri people.

Azad Kashmir is currently facing a severe crisis. Thousands of citizens are protesting in Rawalakot and other areas to press their legitimate demands. Several lives have been lost due to the use of state force, and the supply of essential commodities from Punjab has been stopped, causing immense hardship.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf believes these measures undermine the constitutional, democratic, and political identity of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, blur the distinction with occupied Jammu and Kashmir, and harm Pakistan’s historical Kashmir policy.

When the Kashmiri people are protesting, their voices are suppressed, political workers face action, leaders are arrested, media is restricted, and freedom of expression is curtailed, the electoral process loses all credibility.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will not ignore the voice of the Kashmiri people for the sake of power. Our priority is to support their basic rights, democratic demands, and a just political process. We will stand with the people rather than contest elections.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will not participate until the situation normalizes, concerns of all political and public forces are addressed, Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) matters are resolved through dialogue, the election schedule is reviewed, and a truly equal and free electoral environment is provided to all parties.

The party’s political campaign will focus on raising its voice for the democratic rights of the Kashmiri people and the just resolution of JAAC’s demands.

Furthermore, all recommendations by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Parliamentary Board regarding ticket distribution are suspended. No progress will be made on issuing tickets or advancing the electoral process. These matters will remain deferred until the situation normalizes and a future decision is taken by the party.

This decision is based on solidarity with the Kashmiri people, respect for democratic values, and principled politics. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will not join the electoral process until a free, fair, and peaceful environment is ensured.
