The demerit point system is a bit of a headache to keep in mind, but it’s actually brilliant. Sri Lankan roads could really use a system like this to keep things in check. 🚘

Be transparent.
Which roads are open ?
Which sites are affected ? When will the central hills be safe again ?
The diaspora will come anyway.
The 2M+ international tourists won’t if you keep hiding the truth ‼️
Give us live maps, clear advisories, and real-time info.
Sri Lanka deserves better. Tourists deserve honesty.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs says initial assessments indicate that more than 15,000 homes have been destroyed, over 200 roads remain impassable, at least 10 bridges have been damaged, and sections of the rail network and national power grid affected due to the impact of Cyclone Ditwah, which triggered some of the most severe flooding Sri Lanka has seen since the early 2000s.

#SL urgently needs an effective National Public Alerting System to provide emergency management orgs, across the country with the capability to rapidly warn the public of unfolding and imminent threats.
