The South African People’s Tribunal on AgroToxins is a voluntary collaboration of organisations exposing human & environmental rights violations of agrotoxins
@heala_SA@UAH_za@AmandlaMobi this excellent inquiry mobilised & consolidated civil society orgs working across the food system & produced an incredible critique of the problem backed with facts & lived experience. Truly hope we keep up the pressure together for radical change
The SA Human Rights Commission hearings on food systems have concluded.
We stood with @UAH_za & @AmandlaMobi — and the message is clear: hunger is a policy failure.
#HPL & #FOPL remain critical for #HealthEquity. Now, we push for accountability.

"At college, I was taught that #glyphosate breaks down quickly and harmlessly on soil contact, has zero mammalian toxicity, and is harmless in our waterways. All of this turned out to be untrue." — Guy Singh-Watson (founder of @Riverford) https://t.co/l0z4ybzcpC
Today, we are in a hearing in the Belgian Council of State, in support of the Brussels Region. The Belgian pesticides industry is attacking the Brussels region for setting stricter rules to better protect its citizens and the environment against the toxicity of #pesticides.
There is no GM gene for high yield. Yield depends on the genetics of the crop into which the GM gene for herbicide tolerance or insect resistance is inserted. In other words it is a product of conventional breeding which is solely responsible for yield increase @citizentvkenya

@LeilaniDowding@felixprehn no, the post is misleading. Plant breeders rights have been in place since the 70's, & hybrid seed is unreliable to recycle. GMOs are just a new phase in old tech that has deskilled farmers and annihilated heritage seed and crop diversity. Seed certification laws also problematic
@felixprehn but surely plant breeders rights have been in place in the States decades before GMOs and this problem is not just about biotech? Probably since the 70's. And the biology of hybrid seeds makes them unreliable to recycle regardless of patents
Several Highly Hazardous Pesticides banned in the European Union are still being manufactured and exported to @jumuiya .
These chemicals are poisoning our souls and threatening the health of our people, its time to close these policy gaps.
Banned in Europe, still sold in Africa.
The Poison for Profit report developed with @Swedwatch is featured in this article exposing pesticide double standards harming farmers & ecosystems in Kenya. The EU must stop exporting toxic chemicals. https://t.co/9usdnc1qyK

Africa is bearing the brunt of a climate & biodiversity crisis it didn’t create. False solutions threaten community rights & ecosystems. Our latest fact sheet unpacks #GBF Target 8 & the risks of offsets, enclosure & greenwashing: https://t.co/NLZCvzTRI7 #COP17@unbiodiversity
@GEHonesty there's a definition of GMOs in international law. Gates is trying to make out that all seed that has ever been bred by humans is GMOs. Disingenuous. GM wheat was slated for US market in 2025 so every bit of wheat he's ever eaten is NOT GM. What a liar
Food and nutrition insecurity is largely caused by a food system shaped for corporate interests and a government that can't be bothered to regulate them and put the needs of citizens first

When is @jsteenhuisen his investigation into Terbufos public? He has yet to back up his claim that foreigners were to blame. Indeed, we now know that South Africa is the sole source of Terbufos in the region
Minister of Agriculture John Steenhuisen says the terbufos found in the South African spaza shops does not come from local manufacturers. #eNCA#DStv403#QuestionThinkAct
🛢️ Too toxic for European citizens but safe for the rest of the world?
📢Civil society and organisations from all over the world ask the @EU_Commission to keep its commitments. Stop the export of banned EU #pesticides, end this double standard.

@SAagrotoxins There is a renewed scrutiny on Paraquat in the United States allegedly linked to farmers developing Parkinson disease. South Africa’s poor regulations of pesticides makes us particularly vulnerable to this deadly toxin.
@jsteenhuisen showed his contempt for farm workers and people affected by pesticides, saying that SAPToA 'tried him in absentia and found him guilty'. The Commission asked him to submit proof of this, keen to see how he does that
#RightToFood | The Minister of Agriculture @DLRRD_za Mr John Steenhuisen, together with the Department’s Director-General, Mr Mooketsa Ramasodi, supported by the DDGs are giving in person testimony on the Food Systems of South Africa hearing sitting in Johannesburg.
