We are safeguarding public health, strengthening livelihoods, and unlocking agricultural potential for generations to come.

Today, we officially inaugurate the new Negele Borena Geda Airport, and Ethiopian Airlines’ 24th domestic destination. Built to host advanced aircraft like the Boeing 737 Max, this modern station will immediately launch three weekly flights to catalyse local commerce, cross-border trade, and tourism. Every new runway we build bridges a gap, unlocks regional economic potential, and brings our people closer together. Our national flag carrier and pride of Africa now in its 80th year is indeed “The New Spirit of Africa!”

ከ5 ዓመት በፊት፣ ምንም የሚታይ መሠረተ ልማት ያልነበረው የገላን ጉራ አካባቢ፣ ዛሬ ላይ የታሪክ ምዕራፉ ተቀይሮ የከተማችንን ሁለንተናዊ የልማት ከፍታና መዋቅራዊ ሽግግር የሚያሳይ የኢኮኖሚና የማኅበራዊ መስተጋብር ማዕከል ሆኗል። ዛሬ በዚህ ስፍራ ያረፈው አሻራችን የኢንዱስትሪ ፓርክ ብቻ ሳይሆን፣ የአካባቢውን ገጽታ እና የነዋሪዎቹን ሕይወት ሙሉ በሙሉ ከስር መሠረቱ የለወጠ ነው።

Last August, in partnership with the Dangote Group, we made significant progress by signing a landmark shareholders’ agreement for a fertilizer plant with a planned annual production capacity of 3 million metric tons of urea. In October 2025, we officially launched construction of the project.

This initiative represents far more than infrastructure. It is a strategic investment in Ethiopia’s agricultural transformation, food security, industrial growth, and economic self-reliance. Once completed, the fertilizer plant will play a vital role in strengthening local production capacity, reducing dependence on imports, supporting millions of farmers, and creating new opportunities for jobs and investment.

This morning, together with @AlikoDangote, I visited the project site in Gode to assess the progress achieved so far. I am encouraged by the steady momentum across the project area. Construction activities are advancing as planned across multiple sections of the site, reflecting the strong commitment and collaboration driving this important national project forward.

Today is the day the sun broke through a sky that had been dark for all of Africa and Black people! It is the day Ethiopia triumphed over invading forces who had encroached upon her borders and violated her sovereignty and her people's freedom on the mountains of Adwa. It is the day Ethiopia preserved civilization, which had remained unviolated for three thousand years. Our fore fathers and fore mothers deserve our utmost respect who through the sacrifice of their blood handed down to us an Ethiopia in which we live with pride, alongside a marvellous civilization, history, and great honour.

We, the Ethiopians of today, must sustain the country our ancestors died to build by living in unity and love. Learning from them, we must say ‘No’ to poverty, division, and backward thinking, and transition Ethiopia toward prosperity. The time when Ethiopia becomes even greater than it has ever been, is not far off!

Today, I attended the national summit and exhibition held under the theme "Data Sovereignty for Policy Autonomy," which celebrated Ethiopia's monumental achievement in its journey toward data and statistical sovereignty.

The remarkable progress I observed in this sector is highly encouraging. In this era, data is a strategic asset and a foundational pillar of sovereignty essential for building a strong nation-state. Because borrowed data or reliance on external entities cannot fulfil our national aspirations, collecting and analysing our own data through domestic capacity is a critical input to guarantee policy independence.

Above all, witnessing data collection and analysis being driven by the knowledge and skills of our own citizens is a source of immense national pride. Furthermore, our focus on data must not only target quantifiable metrics but must also centre on human-centric approaches that bring tangible improvements to the lives of our citizens.

The facility has been constructed on 43 hectares of land and inaugurated today. Beyond creating a highly conducive business environment for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), it opens the doors of employment for thousands of our youth.

This presents a grand opportunity for our nation's manufacturers to enhance their capacity, boost productivity, and increase competitiveness, allowing them to make a significant impact on our city, our country, and the wider region. By manufacturing import-substituting goods, the park establishes a direct and efficient commercial link between producers and consumers. Furthermore, by supplying products to the international market, it will play a pivotal role in both conserving and growing our nation's foreign currency reserves.

I held a fruitful bilateral meeting with President @GeneralNeva of Burundi today. During our engagement, we oversaw the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) aimed at strengthening our cooperation across various sectors. I have also taken a moment to congratulate him once again on his chairmanship of the African Union along with discussions on vast continental issues. These discussions and the resulting agreements are a pivotal testament to our shared commitment, serving as the essential foundation for transforming our long-standing ties into tangible cooperation that ensures a prosperous and united future for both countries.
