The intense online hate campaigns against India’s 2036 Olympics ambition is mind boggling 🤯

It aims at broader negative portrayals of India

Replies and related posts themselves include explicit racial abuse (“poopjeet”, “filthy India”, “street shitter”)

AI memes of polluted water and garbage and claims that India is inherently incapable of hosting major events

I find it absolutely like a wave of racist derogatory comments and stereotypes rather than focused policy critique

Even Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI) analysis found anti-Indian content on X tripled in 2025, with over 24,000 posts generating more than 300 million views

The reasons found being US immigration debates (especially H-1B visas, which Indians dominate)

The thing to notice is that a small number of accounts drove a disproportionate share of engagement

Similar patterns appear in reports on anti-India rhetoric tied to economic anxiety, diaspora success in tech and even political rhetoric

This is deeply rooted in older colonial imagery or selective highlighting of remaining problems in a country of 1.4 billion

The worst part is that social media rewards and scale it

Because social media dynamics are increasingly known to amplify outrage, memes and fringe voices far beyond their actual prevalence

Yes, a smaller share of certain substantive concerns like:
- air quality in candidate cities
- past event-management issues
- costs of hosting
- doping rates
- Olympic medal performance

get overshadowed or weaponised by the racist framing

To me, volume and tone indicate that a meaningful portion of the “immense hate” is prejudice and network-driven amplification rather than a dispassionate reading of India’s progress or readiness

Legitimate scrutiny of any Olympic bid should exist BUT the form much of the online reaction takes does not 🙏🙏

Thousands of protesters have gathered in central Delhi on Monday, 12 October, as Opposition MPs, political leaders, student organisations, youth activists and civil society groups join a massive demonstration demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and an immediate halt to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Led by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, the INDIA bloc's march towards the Supreme Court has brought together leaders and supporters of the Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), Samajwadi Party (SP), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Left parties and other Opposition formations. Members and supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), the All India Students' Association (AISA) and other student groups have also joined the mobilisation.

Protesters began gathering around Connaught Place and Barakhamba Road ahead of the march. Demonstrators pushed through police barricades as the mobilisation moved forward, amid a heavy security deployment across central Delhi.

The Opposition had planned to submit a memorandum to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, seeking action over alleged electoral irregularities, the SIR exercise and the demand for Gyanesh Kumar's resignation. However, the CJI declined a request for a private meeting, citing pending judicial proceedings, and advised the Opposition to approach the Supreme Court through a formal petition.

Monday's mobilisation follows two days of widespread protests and a massive police crackdown across Delhi on 10 and 11 October. Thousands of protesters, including political leaders, student activists and CJP supporters, were detained as Delhi Police prevented demonstrators from reaching Jantar Mantar.

Ahead of Monday's march, more than 30,000 police and paramilitary personnel were reportedly deployed across the national capital. Six Metro stations were closed for several hours, while traffic restrictions were imposed on multiple roads.

In another significant development, Delhi Police announced on Monday that Jantar Mantar would no longer be a designated protest site, identifying Ramlila Maidan, Burari Ground and CBD Ground as alternative venues.
