I’m proud to have been among the founding members of the first Somaliland Students Association in Uganda in 2008 and to have served as its second chair. According to informed sources, Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of South Sudan, is prepared to announce recognition within the coming hours. The decision comes as South Sudan, itself a relatively young state, moves to support Somaliland’s long-standing bid for international recognition.

Reports indicate that Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi and President Salva Kiir are expected to hold a direct live call to coordinate and publicly mark the announcement, signaling a potentially significant diplomatic breakthrough for Somaliland on the international stage.
