Spent a wonderful evening at an Iftar reunion with friends who studied at universities in Uganda. It was special to reconnect with colleagues and long-time friends after many years. I’m proud to have been among the founding members of the first Somaliland Students Association in Uganda in 2008 and to have served as its second chair. A beautiful night of shared stories, laughter, and sweet memories.

It was an honor to attend the official launch of the Horn and Red Sea Security Forum under the @ISIR_INSTITUTE . This timely initiative comes as geopolitical tensions and strategic competition across the Horn of Africa and Red Sea corridor continue to intensify, making dialogue and cooperation more essential than ever.
Somaliland, as a consistent contributor to regional peace and stability, must remain actively engaged in shaping discussions and narratives that influence our region’s future. Platforms like this are vital to encourage collaboration, informed policy debate, and forward-looking solutions across security, economic, and development sectors.
Congratulations to ISIR Institute for establishing this important forum, which will bring together regional and international participants annually to strengthen cooperation and shared understanding.
Law 3: Conceal Your Intentions (48 Laws of Power)
Meaning: Don’t reveal your real plans or goals too early.
Why: If people know what you want, they can block you, compete with you, or use it against you.
How it works: You keep your real purpose hidden by using vague words, distraction, or misdirection.
Result: Others stay uncertain, and you gain control and advantage.

2026 will be a year of profound change.
The global order will not remain the same, and long-standing status quos will increasingly give way to reality. Somaliland’s recognition marks a decisive turning point one that establishes a new political reality that must be acknowledged and engaged with. After three decades, the existing Somali framework is no longer viable.
The call for a new path is not a matter of choice, but of necessity.

Strategic Assessments: South Sudan Set to Become the Second Country to Recognise Somaliland
South Sudan is reportedly on the verge of formally recognizing Somaliland, in a move that would make it the second country to do so.
According to informed sources, Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of South Sudan, is prepared to announce recognition within the coming hours. The decision comes as South Sudan, itself a relatively young state, moves to support Somaliland’s long-standing bid for international recognition.
Reports indicate that Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi and President Salva Kiir are expected to hold a direct live call to coordinate and publicly mark the announcement, signaling a potentially significant diplomatic breakthrough for Somaliland on the international stage.
