What's the point of Dynamax in Pokémon GO?
tl;dr: Dynamax Pokémon and Max Battles are a soft reset on Pokémon collection and attempts to correct some shortcomings of the Raid Battle system.
The most engaging feature of Pokémon GO has always been collecting Pokémon and the most exciting content for many Trainers is adding new Pokémon to their Pokédex. Niantic has added features that will support Pokémon GO as a "forever franchise," like Team GO Rocket, GO Battle League, and Social features to build communities. But none will be as crucial as giving Trainers something to collect.
Over the years, Niantic has refined the collection experience by introducing Shadow Pokémon, XXL/XXS Pokémon, Costumed Pokémon, and specialized Pokédex categories. These are attempts to give Trainers something new to collect that isn't just new Pokémon species.
Dynamax Pokémon is their latest and boldest attempt to prolong the collection game. Everyone is now at the starting line to build teams to participate in Max Battles. Trainers need to catch and power up Dynamax Pokémon to catch and power up stronger Dynamax Pokémon to catch and power up even stronger Dynamax Pokémon.
This may ultimately lead to Max Battle-exclusive Pokémon. Trainers must participate in Dynamax if they want to add new Pokémon to their Pokédex.
However, starting from zero also helps Max Battles correct some shortcomings with Raid Battles (which will continue to exist alongside Max Battles. I feel like I need to state this because I will definitely confuse some people). Almost all strategic depth of Raid Battles gets nullified when you can bring a full lobby of Trainers with recommended Teams. Some raid bosses can also be challenging to take down without significant individual contributions or sheer numbers.
On the other hand, Max Battles require up to 4 Trainers and up to 3 Dynamax Pokémon each. On paper, every Trainer's contribution will matter more for Max Battles, giving them agency to take down bosses with fewer Trainers than a Raid Battle. In exchange for this agency, a team might need to make more strategic choices, such as having one Trainer uses Max Spirit to heal the team while everyone else uses Max Guard to reduce incoming damage from the Power Spot boss. (We'll have to see how this works out in practice).
Outside of Max Battles, you must prepare with the limited pool of Dynamax Pokémon available and gather resources. This will give more incentive to participate in lower-tier Max Battles and give Max Battles a chance to succeed as a feature.
The Max Particle system is an improved version of the Free Raid Pass system, offering more flexibility. Instead of only being able to participate once per day, you get 800 (or more) Max Particles to spend per day. The entry cost to Max Battles scales to the Power Spot Boss. So you can choose to do three tier-1 Max Battles at 250 MP each or a single Max Battle that costs 800 MP (note: we don't know the higher tier costs yet).
I wrote this to explain why Max Battle exists in its current form. However, I'm optimistic it will be a positive addition to the game. Max Battles will keep the game fresh for veteran players and add more accessible cooperative play for everyone.
@PokemonGoApp So they will be like 'Another' form, like the alola version? I hoped theyll be more like a Mega, since on the games they need an item to be the Origin Forme
