Tyler Perry: The Play That Almost Broke Him Became His Breakthrough
In the early 1990s, Tyler Perry poured his savings into a stage play called I Know I’ve Been Changed. Almost no one came. He kept staging it anyway, year after year, going broke and at times sleeping in his car.
In 1998 he tried one last time. The audience finally showed up. The show sold out and launched the career he had spent years fighting to build.
That persistence later led to Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, hundreds of acres turned into a major film and television production complex.
