President Ibrahim Traoré of Burkina Faso has declared that Islamic law will under no circumstances be put into effect within the nation and has counselled Burkinabe nationals who are pursuing studies of the subject in Saudi Arabia against coming back.

He asked why the 800 individuals enrolled in Sharia programmes had not instead chosen to master a craft or develop practical abilities.

He further affirmed that every person is entitled to follow their own faith.
