We are going to keep blaming WRs, the whole team has been playoff caliber, outside of the QB and WR position. We had the pieces, but now it’s going to be a reset because the Office did not prepare for Big Bens retirement.
This is getting ridiculous. So here's the rundown of why this trade makes sense:
1) Pickens' agents hinted that he wanted to test FA next year. He wasn't likely to sign an extension even if it was offered.
2) The Steelers are already predicted to max out at 4 compensatory picks next year -- 1 each in rounds 3, 4, 5 and 6. AT BEST, keeping Pickens this year would raise that 4 to a 3. By making the trade, they get a 3 AND keep the 4 comp picks they are projected to get.
3) Pickens had become a lockerroom issue. It's been reported that other teams LAUGHED at the idea of trading for him.
4) He was likely not going to take kindly to the idea of him not being WR1 this year, which means he would spend the season pouting and taking plays off.
This was a case of maximizing the value of a no-win situation.
Its like they cant take accountability, cause the only “Cancer” on the team is the empty QB position since 2022. Upset at a 24 year old WR who hasnt had a consistent QB, how many more WR are we gonna blame?
Can’t stand the lying from the Steelers. For Omar Khan to come out and blatantly say they feel good about the current WR room without George Pickens is a complete slap in the face to Yinzers. #Steelers#NFL
𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧: #Steelers HC Mike Tomlin appears to be the one who first initiated George Pickens being traded out of Pittsburgh, not GM Omar Khan or Owner Art Rooney, sources told @MarkKaboly
“What's surprising to me is, from everything that I've heard, Mike Tomlin was the one that was in front of this all. It wasn't Art. It wasn't Omar. It was Mike, and then the organizational decision of - it's time to move on.”
