The #Maldives just made history at the #UN.
After nearly 61 years at the United Nations, the Maldives is elected to #ECOSOC for the first time.
We will use this seat to champion affordable access to finance, real delivery, #SIDS priorities, and climate and ocean resilience.
My HRCM memoir was graciously launched today by President Muizzu. It chronicles the fascinating stories from my eventful five years as President of the first autonomous HRCM, a truly memorable and eventful period that finally marked the nation’s transition to democracy.
Neither Donald Trump nor son in law Jared Kushner have any right to do anything in Gaza! It belongs to the Palestinians! Only they can decide what's best for Gaza and its future!
What exactly are you signing? Literally, what is this agreement?
Where are the Palestinians in all of this? What kind of “peace” are you signing without them?
Is this about ending the occupation? Freeing the Palestinians from the occupation? Is it about restoring Palestinian rights?
If so, they should be the first ones at the table!!!
The Norwegian NC has lost credibility after awarding the @NobelPrize 2025 to @MariaCorinaYA who supported Genocide in Gaza & seeks backing from Netanyahu, a war criminal wanted by the ICC. Like the Europeans & US, I am not surprised the Committee has preferred politics over peace
What's the purpose of recognizing Palestine by UK, Australia, Canada and France, when all four countries are sending weapons to Israel to kill Palestinians?
Today, 21 Sept marks 60 years since #Maldives joined the UN.
In 1965: population 100k, per capita <$50, life expectancy 40.
Today: population 527k, per capita $13,200, life expectancy 81.
It’s a journey of commitment, resilience, and progress with the #UN as a steadfast partner.
🇲🇻 Making Maldivians proud on the global stage! The #UNGA has elected the #Maldives as a Vice President of its 80th session, beginning in Sep 2025—a proud milestone as we mark 60 years in the UN. 🌍✨
We will strive to making multilateralism better, stronger, and more inclusive.
To commemorate this year’s #HumanRightsDay, the Ministry hosted an interactive discussion led by Ambassador-at-large Ahmed Saleem, on human rights internationally and the Maldives.
As we commemorate the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, the Maldives reaffirm its commitment to the Palestinian struggle for justice and their right to live in peace.
For every Maldivian, Palestine’s struggle is our own.
We call on the international community to come together and leverage all its political will and economic power to demand an immediate end to Israel’s illegal occupation and hold those responsible for war crimes and genocidal acts accountable.
We firmly believe that a lasting solution can only be possible through the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian State based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
At the Resumed 10th Emergency Special Session, the Maldives, today, co-sponsored and voted in favour of the #UNGA Resolution on the Advisory Opinion of the #ICJ on the legal consequences arising from Israel’s policies and practices in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), including East Jerusalem, leading to a lasting solution.
The unlawful acts of genocide being committed in Gaza must end now. A humanitarian ceasefire and the safe passage of aid must be urgently assured. We must ensure that the #ICJ rulings rendered on 19 July 2024 is fully implemented by Israel within 12 months as the resolution demands. International law and humanity must prevail.
Palestinians’ aspirations for justice, peace and statehood must be realised. This can only be possible with the recognition of #Palestine as an independent and sovereign state based on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
It was a pleasure to deliver a lecture on South Asia and SAARC to the young officers undergoing training at the Foreign Service Academy of Bangladesh. Thank you @FSA_Bangladesh for the invitation and wonderful hospitality.
