Allow me to be extra honest: NO ONE who got into Microsoft or Google or any of the 'FAANG' companies is smarter than you. Settle this in your mind.

It's all luck and timing which is tied to access to opportunities and access to 'packaging techniques' either in your CV or in your communication.

This is applicable to those who earn "big" salaries. If they are honest with you, they'll tell you.

I'm not big in the tech space but I consider myself persistent in any endeavour, and have a thick skin to rejections or insults.

I once interviewed at a Nigerian bank as a software developer and one of the panelists asked how much my current salary was. I replied "180k per month."

He looked me in the eye and said, "if I were to pay you, I won't pay you more than 100k because you know nothing about this field."

Me ke? I dusted my bags and gave them a secret middle finger. E pain me o, but I knew and still know that my destiny wasn't to die in Alausa.

Put yourself out there like a mad man. Eat insults for breakfast. Doors only open to the long term thinking and strategic maniac.

Reading books taught me that before you become rich in your pocket, you must become rich in your mind.

Around 2007, I watched The Secret. It changed something in me. I later bought over 100 copies of the book and CDs and shared them with others.

Then I kept reading, Napoleon Hill, Wallace D. Wattles, The Greatest Salesman in the World, Robert Greene, Bill Bartmann' Billionaires secret to success, Jim Rohn many others.

Yet while reading about success, I was still failing in business. I lost millions. Factories closed. I borrowed money. I started again and again.

But the books were quietly building the person who would eventually build the business.

They changed how I saw money, failure, selling, value creation and opportunity.

Years later, my yoghurt business recorded sales running into billions of naira.

Reading didn't make me rich because books contain magic.

Reading changed my thinking.
My thinking changed my actions.
My actions changed my life.

Read. Think. Act. Fail. Learn. Repeat.
