Samantha (Sam) Lisy shares her unconventional path to a career in science as a PhD candidate in Biochemistry at Vanderbilt University located in Nashville, Tennessee (USA). In this piece, written by Courtney Whilden and edited by Dr. Jennifer Porat, Sam describes how her unique experiences as a former elite athlete have made her a better scientist.
Excited to dive into @samlisy_'s @RNASociety Spotlight about mixing sports & science to reach one's potential, my favourite combination 🤩. I believe that being yourself is enough to become a successful scientist. Hope to see you at the #RNA24 Sam!

I had the honor of presenting at the 28th @RNASociety Conference in Singapore. I received many questions, had very fruitful conversations, and am excited to stay connected with all the bright scientists that I met.
While a professional milestone, this also benchmarks a highpoint in what was a remarkably challenging two years. Cheers to overcoming more challenges and reaching higher peaks! 🥂.
Awesome talk by @samlisy_ about her work on the antiviral RBP IFIT1 and the identification of its host-encoded capped RNA targets, using an elegantly simple addition to CLIP-seq approaches. Basic principles leading to discoveries. @RNASociety@VandyBiochem@neelmukherj

If you’re thinking you haven’t had enough ADAR, RNA editing or innate immune signalling (can you ever?) at this #RNA23 then come along to the Technologies session this afternoon where I’ll present our unpublished work. @samlisy_ also talking about anti-viral responses. 🥳

Speaking of which… come see me talk about discovering a previously overlooked subset of transcripts at the Technologies II concurrent session. Happy to chat more after too 🤗 #RNA23
Thanks to everyone for coming to our social tonight! We hope you met many new scientists and we will announce the raffle winners at our career panel on Friday!
