@ykramerezha@BrianMcDonaldIE But there is no civil society in dictatorship. In dictatorships society is divided and frightened. Only in democratic states where people can choose their leaders you can criticize specific society actions. That doesn’t imply refusing responsibility
@ykramerezha@BrianMcDonaldIE Well, as for making decisions. You can judge Russian societies actions in 00s or 10s since back then Russian less unfree and Russian society was able to somehow influence on politics. I do have reasons to discuss it, indeed. 1/
@ykramerezha@BrianMcDonaldIE I am not saying that Russia is better in technology than China or the US. I am saying that whenever someone mentions Russian talents from the past, it always triggers those who say “they are all orcs, they did nothing useful in their swamps”
@ykramerezha@BrianMcDonaldIE What I am saying is that despite a lack of science financing in Russia, despite low wages in science, there are still many people that dedicate their life for it.
But many of Russians don’t have an opportunity to build a great career in IT but Russian students always win ICPC
@ykramerezha@BrianMcDonaldIE Geim and Novoselov gained Russian education, studied in the Russian institute. That’s common for scientists to work in different labarotories
