Dear @ndlea_nigeria,
I am writing to bring to your attention an incident involving some officers of the Ondo State Command who reportedly raided Akure Mall, a business environment in Alagbaka, this evening. I understand that the officers went to raid a car wash and lounge within the premises. However, their manner of operation reportedly caused panic among other people in the environment. The officers were allegedly seen handling and waving their rifles in a manner that caused several people to run for safety.
More concerning is the report from a friend who was at the scene. She told me that one of the officers, whom she described as being overzealous, kicked her car while she was parking her vehicle, despite her not having committed any offence. While she was on the phone with me, I could hear your officers telling her that she should thank God that her car was only kicked and that something worse could have happened to her. I also heard an officer telling her that she had no right to make a phone call in their presence.
If these allegations are accurate, such conduct is completely unacceptable and falls far short of the professionalism expected of officers of a law enforcement agency. Law enforcement operations should not become an excuse for intimidating, harassing or assaulting innocent citizens who are not the targets of an operation. Whatever offence the officers may have been investigating, it could have been handled without creating unnecessary fear and panic among other members of the public.
I am aware of reports that the Ondo State Command currently does not have a substantive Commandant, and I sincerely hope that this is not contributing to a breakdown in discipline and professional conduct within the Command. Regardless, the absence of a Commandant cannot justify misconduct or abuse of citizens.
I therefore urge the NDLEA leadership to take this complaint seriously and conduct a thorough investigation into what happened at Akure Mall today. The officers involved should be identified, the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and intimidation should be established, and appropriate action should be taken if any wrongdoing is confirmed.
Citizens deserve to feel safe around law enforcement officers, not terrified by them.
I look forward to seeing this matter investigated appropriately.
Yours sincerely,
Oluyemi Fasipe

South Africa vs Mexico is one of those rare games where Nigerians can’t lose.
South Africa lose? We banter. 😭
South Africa win? We suddenly become Africanists and celebrate the African spirit.
