In my opinion, though a common species, the Eastern Painted Turtle is the prettiest turtle species we’re fortunate to have here in the Southeast (aside from the Eastern Box Turtle). 🐢

Masters in the art of patience, Great Blue Herons typically spend long periods of time in standing water waiting for their prey to pass by before striking. A gracefully deadly animal and one of my favorite bird species here in Eastern NC. 🥷
