Two of the core tenets of rewilding are:
– rewetting the landscape; rewiggling streams and rivers, reconnecting them with their floodplains, restoring wetlands and ponds, and generally hold back water in the land;
– restoring extensive grazing and browsing by native herbivores such as hardy cattle and wild ponies.
Both of those things play a big role in reducing the likelihood and intensity of wildfire.
This is utter nonsense in the Daily Mail. The exact opposite is true.
@BBCNewsnight@vicderbyshire Talk about BBC bias! Absolutely no engagement about politicians using such posts for political gain and all about trying to get Zac for, quite rightly, refusing to apologise.
🦡 We're hearing the Cumbria cull is not continuing. No new licenses. A shift to vaccination. We're still waiting on official confirmation but on the ground, it's looking like the English badger cull has ended.
Over 247,000 badgers lost. That number will never leave us.

Channel 4 News has uncovered that the King’s private estate tried to sell land contaminated with toxic illegal waste in Wigan to the local council.
In January, Channel 4 News revealed the 25,000-ton site, dubbed UK’s “most dangerous illegal waste dump”, was on land largely owned by the Duchy of Lancaster - the King’s extensive private portfolio of properties and estates.
When approached by the programme the Duchy of Lancaster said it had offered to transfer the land to the council last year - however, correspondence obtained via a Freedom of Information request reveals it actually tried to sell the site at full market price.
Wigan Council told Channel 4 News it “respectfully declined” the Duchy’s offer.
The Duchy told us today "We continue to work with Wigan Council to try and find an effective resolution to the illegal waste site."

The Cul-de-Sac That Used to Be Her Home.
A female badger stands at the edge of a fresh tarmac driveway in the April twilight, her paws caked in the clay of a leveled hillside.
"I have raised six generations in the dark earth beneath this spot," she grunts, her scent-marking glands working fruitlessly against a concrete kerb. "I know the exact root where the bluebells first break and the slope where the oak mast falls. Now, there is only a fence where my front door used to be. I am not lost—the world is."
We often assume that wildlife can simply "move next door" when we build new housing estates, viewing animals as flexible commuters.
In reality, badgers are deeply site-faithful. A social group may use the same sett for over a century. Right now in mid-April, sows are weaning cubs and require immense caloric intake. When a development goes up in months, it destroys 15 years of topographical memory. Displacement leads to "road-kill" spikes as confused animals attempt to navigate old paths that are now motorways.
Practical Actions:
Support Wildlife Corridors: Advocate for "badger gates" in new housing fences to allow ancestral passage.
Report Sett Damage: If you see active digging near construction, ensure a license is in place.

There is something intensely peculiar about fawning over unremarkable people of average or less intelligence whose main contribution to the economy is very briefly pretending to do an ordinary job, all for a photo opportunity to show they’re really normal.
Four people have been on the back of a fiver before Churchill: Britannia, the Duke of Wellington, George Stevenson and Elizabeth Fry. Before that it was a lion and before that the back was blank.
This really isn't the major issue people are making it out to be.
