We're now 2 yrs into the decisive decade. Emissions should be in an unprecedented fall, instead we're seeing the 2nd biggest rise ever recorded. We're wasting invaluable time pretending we can solve this crisis without treating it like a crisis. World leaders are still in denial.
Surprising no one, Senate Republicans just blocked the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
Democrats: it’s voting rights or the filibuster. This should not be a difficult decision.
It would be great if we could keep just a little attention on the fact that our democracy is going to crumble unless we pass voting rights legislation.
Pardon the language here, but I asked a House Democrat who is locked in his office whether Congress will reconvene tonight and finish its business. He replied:
“Yep. We’re going back. Fuck these assholes.”
Probably an unpopular take but I think it’s important the public knows what their public servants’ financial & income streams are, regardless of gender or party.
We can note how scrutiny gets disproportionately wielded on women, but Wall St ties are a very reasonable to examine
When I hear talk of centrism and criticism of progressives, I hear the old politics that got us in this damn trouble. If Dems choose to retreat on the issues that matter to the people, especially Black people, who helped get them the White House, they should be held to account!
Hey fellow white #Democrats, black voters in Georgia just saved our asses and our democracy after having to spend a long year pleading for their very lives. It is an unplayable debt. We owe American people of color a complete dismantling of the systems which disenfranchise them.
Maybe the only emotion I haven’t felt this year somehow, is surprise. It feels like this is exactly who/where we are, you know? Based on everything that has happened leading up to now, did we think that Election Day wouldn’t be the day that gave us 100k new cases/no consensus?
I hope, desperately hope, that this story is not what it appears to be. That there is some mistake. We need to know more, fast. But there is a chill up my spine with the recognition that this is plausible in our current America.
COVID deaths are disproportionately spiking in Black + Brown communities.
Why? Because the chronic toll of redlining, environmental racism, wealth gap, etc. ARE underlying health conditions.
Inequality is a comorbidity. COVID relief should be drafted with a lens of reparations.
Moreover, why did two of the three most articulate candidates, after dropping out BEFORE SUPER TUESDAY endorse a man for whom every microphone is a disaster in waiting?
