More than 1 in 7 employees have symptoms of an existing mental health condition. The cost to our economy of well-being is tremendous! The UK government is waking up to this fact. Are you? What are your responsibilities as an employer? And as an employee? Let us hear your $0.02 !
Healing cafés? You might wonder what these are... Well, they are public spaces of tranquility giving the needed peace and quiet to us humans, during our busy days ! #mentalwellbeing#sandboxcafé#healingcafé

"We need to alleviate the pressure to be happy, so that we can actually make room for happiness. We need to stop looking to other people to define happiness, and start finding it in ourselves." Wise words to live by stated in this article by @thrive: https://t.co/aXWgtW4jd3
Occasional social interactions are better for creative problem-solving than constant ones. Don't we all need our "peace and quiet" time to really dive into a task, and perform at our best? https://t.co/dNg4ZyYuMC says "Yes, we do!"
But prioritizing time to engage with one's employees pays off ! This leads to more engaged employees while maintaining the manager's work performance. It also helps if the company rewards fairness by the managers ! Thanks @Sherfelad, @DrRaviGajendran, and Vijaya Venkataramani
The feeling of being treated fairly makes a huge difference to employees in the workplace ! Employees who feel they are treated fairly by managers are better performers and more committed, among other benefits, according to @HarvardBiz https://t.co/tI0pmjCUoK
However, managers are people too, and they have pressures like everyone else. Being fair requires time and effort, which often are deprioritized as their own workloads increase, especially when there are no incentives to do otherwise.
Really good stuff here ! Thanks @HarvardBiz and Serena Chen from @UCBerkeley. Treat yourself like someone you are responsible for taking care of. You only have one soul, be kind to it. Remember, we all fail and make mistakes; it is a shared human experience.
Another factor that might play a role here: Vitamin D intake through natural sunlight counteracts depression ! Why else do you think it is is so important to humans?
78% of employees say access to natural light and views improves their well-being; 70% report improved work performance. Workers spend on average 5 hours and 42 minutes at their desk each day. Imagine how productivity would be improved with access to natural light !
How does the urgency and time-span of a task affect your work ? Do you notice how these variables tend to make you feel about a task ? It is important to feel productive, but not ignore important tasks that may take longer, be more complex, but come with higher payoff !
Interesting insight from @HarvardBiz and Meng Zhu from @JHUCarey. Especially noteworthy are concepts like the Parkinson's Law which posits that "work expands to fill the time available."
Furthermore, we tend to prioritize urgent tasks over important ones (think: checking e-mail vs working on a report or deliverable), even when they are trivial and when they lead to worse off financial outcomes !
