While @elonmusk is a phenomenal innovator and entrepreneur this tweet is in extremely poor taste. To suggest that India is controlled by one industrialist is both absurd and deeply disrespectful. India is a lively, vibrant democracy with a transparent economy and strong institutions.

The United States has consistently protected its own economic and national security interests. Electric vehicles face 100% tariffs, effectively keeping companies like BYD out of the US passenger car market. There are stringent restrictions on telecom equipments on national security grounds. The FCC is now proposing to bar testing laboratories in several countries from certifying electronic devices for the US market.

If the United States can legitimately protect its national security, why should India be denied the same sovereign right?

India welcomes innovation, investment and fair competition. But no global corporation, however influential, can expect India to compromise its national interests or dictate its policies.

Think about it.

If a businessman wants to enter a country to do business, will he try it by mocking the prime minister of that country and abusing the head of country's biggest conglomerate?

Clearly the goal is not to get Starlink into India because what Elon is doing doesn't increase the odds.

The goal is something else. Polymarket says there is 9% chance. But remember. We are not Nepal, Venezuela, Iran or Cuba.

We are politically aware citizens of world's largest democracy where the prime minister has been voted by more people than your country's entire population.

American banks and card networks generate massive revenue through interchange or "swipe fees".

American public is suffering due to these interest rates.

UPI was built as a non-profit, that is mostly free for consumers and very low fee for merchants.

American financial institutions don't want to allow a system like UPI that would completely wipe out billions of dollars in credit card processing profits.

India has a Prime Minister. His name is Mr. Narendra Modi. He was elected.

Mukesh Ambani was not.

We argue about oligopolies, spectrum, rural connectivity and who gets which licence. That fight is ours.

We, Indians, may or may not live with the possible gaps, the cheapest 5G prices and the politics. We do not need a foreign billionaire to rename our country so his satellite licence moves faster.

Starlink may be useful. So is the right of a sovereign state to set its own rules.

Come as a competitor. Do not come as a lecturer who thinks he gets to decide who runs India.

Our problems. Our people. Our solutions. Not yours.

What we will not accept is an outsider appointing our “real boss” because Starlink is waiting on a licence.
