this is probably the best thing i've heard about the movie yet, both because it shows that nolan definitely has a vision here and pisses off the right wing purist freaks even more
I will ignore every mythological “inaccuracy” (it’s an adaptation it doesn’t really matter) in Nolan’s Odyssey, besides one. Odysseus needs to explain that everyone he knows calls him “nobody”. If he does not make it sound so obviously false I will riot.
I love how no one is considering the fact that Elliot page is probably playing either the prophet Tiresias or Elpenor, the man who fell off of Circe’s roof and died. Also with how Achilles is used in the Odyssey, making him lithe and lacking what gave him glory is genius.
“No one can stand between me and home - not even the Gods.”
He isn’t saying the Gods are stopping him. He’s stating how determined he is to get home. It’s a declaration of will, not a literal plot summary. It’s his character voice
Jesus, is basic English fucking lost on people?
People who’re hating on this line are missing the point. He isn’t saying that all of the Gods are stoping him from getting home, he is saying that his determination is so strong that they (sans Poseidon) couldn’t stop him if they wanted to. His will is stronger than divinity.
