Don't confuse complexity with quality:

Anyone can make things complicated. It takes actual discipline to keep them simple.

Keep moving forward:
Johan looked back only to learn from his mistakes. He believed the connections between different lessons in your life often become clear only years later. The past is useful only as a teacher. (5:00)

Cherish what you have:
Johan’s father died when he was 12, but he was surrounded by love from his mother, stepfather, and everyone at Ajax. "I think back on my childhood with great fondness. I have known nothing but love."
I relate, as my father passed when I was a child. I was lucky enough to have the greatest stepdad, and I, too, look back with the same fondness as Johan. A strong foundation is everything. (9:00)

Enjoyment creates repetition, and repetition creates mastery:
"I just did what I had always done, which was to spend all my free time playing football either at the club or on the street with my friends. What has been important to me is not only playing football but enjoying it." (11:00)

Great leaders know exactly where their expertise ends:
Johan understood that no person could be the best player at every position. The same was true when he became a coach. "I've never pretended I could do anything I couldn't." (41:00)

Look outside your own field:
Cruyff wanted his players to improve their breathing, so he brought in an opera singer who specialized in breathing techniques. (43:00)
