Democrats keep telling us that having ICE anywhere near a polling place would suppress voter turnout.

That is supposed to scare you.

But ask yourself a very simple question, whose vote would it actually suppress?

If you are an American citizen, legally registered, showing up to cast a lawful vote, why would the presence of law enforcement stop you?

Most Americans would probably be annoyed, maybe even angry, but they would still vote. In fact, plenty of people, especially on the left, would likely show up even more defiantly just to prove a point.

So when Democrats say ICE at the polls would “suppress turnout,” what they really seem to be saying is that some people showing up to vote might not want their identity checked too closely.

We are constantly lectured that voter fraud is rare, that illegal voting does not happen, and that everyone in the system is exactly who they say they are.

Fine.

Then what is the problem with making sure only legal voters are voting?

If every ballot belongs to a citizen, there should be nothing to fear.

The truth is, ID checks and immigration enforcement would not scare legitimate voters away from the polls.

They would scare away people who know they do not belong there in the first place.

And that is exactly why the left reacts so hysterically whenever anyone suggests tightening the rules.

They know confidence in elections depends on basic safeguards, but they also know those safeguards threaten the loose, chaotic system they have spent years defending.

Americans should not have to wonder whether every vote is legal. They should know it.
