Over the weekend SJPD Officers seized three firearms during three separate proactive enforcement stops from your San Jose streets.

On Friday, at approximately 1:17 AM, Central Division Patrol Officers conducted an enforcement stop on a vehicle that was reported stolen. Upon contact, Officers located three occupants, with the driver in possession of a firearm and narcotics. On top of that, the driver was operating the vehicle under the influence. The suspect was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for multiple crimes including firearm and narcotics-related offenses.

The following day at approximately 1:13 AM, CentralDivision Patrol Officers conducted another vehicle enforcement stop where they located a loaded firearm confirmed to be stolen. The suspect passenger was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail.

That night at approximately 6:00 PM, SJPD Special Operations Division Officers conducted a vehicle enforcement stop where they found multiple open containers of alcohol inside the vehicle. Upon a probable cause search of the vehicle, Officers located a privately made firearm on one of the passengers. The passenger was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for various firearm-related crimes.

These aren’t just examples of proactive policing, but most importantly, examples of what we do everyday to make sure our community feels safe to live, work, and thrive here. One less dangerous firearm threatening the safety of our community members means one more win for public safety.

Hold your horses! Last night, SJPD Patrol Officers got in a pony pursuit after receiving a call regarding a Shetland pony on the loose. Thanks to the horsepower of our patrol cars, responding officers were able to locate the little pony trotting around in a neighborhood. Through some investigative work, Officers eventually found the owner, who was quite relieved to have the pony returned after it had escaped the night before. We are glad this little adventure seeker is back home safe and done hoofin' around. 🐎💨🚓

Chief Joseph, along with some SJPD Patrol Officers and the Crime Prevention Unit, recently visited the San Jose Job Corps Center with some ice cream and meaningful conversations. From discussing career paths to offering guidance and encouragement, our officers were proud to support these young adults as they continue their journey towards a bright future.

Although we love seeing people utilize our public trails for some fresh air and exercise, we do not love seeing people breaking the law.

Over the weekend, SJPD Southern Division Patrol Officers were conducting community policing foot patrol along a bicycle trail in south San Jose when they observed three motorcyclists riding illegally on the trail. The group fled upon contact, but Officers were able to detain one of the suspects.

Once detained, the adult male suspect was also found to have purposely concealed his license plate. The motorcycle was impounded, and the suspect was arrested and booked into Santa Clara Main Jail.

The San Jose Police Department would like to remind everyone that it is illegal to ride motorcycles on trails and bicycle paths in the city of San Jose.

On July 12, 1924, at approximately 6:20 PM, a citizen reported a man forcibly taking a female from a residence on East Julian Street. Sergeant Morris Van Dyck Hubbard, a seven-year veteran, and Officer Murphy, both plain clothes detectives, responded to East Julian Street.

Sergeant Hubbard and Officer Murphy located the suspect and the victim at Julian and 15th Streets. Sergeant Hubbard drew his gun and ordered the suspect to surrender. The suspect turned and fired a single shot. Neither detective was struck. Sergeant Hubbard, Officer Murphy, and Suspect Mays were then involved in a shootout. As a result of the shootout, Sergeant Hubbard was struck in the abdomen by Suspect Mays. The suspect was struck in the wrist and chest and died as a result of his injuries.

Sergeant Hubbard was transported to San Jose Hospital. Prior to surgery, Sergeant Hubbard was conscious, however, later died in surgery.

Sergeant Hubbard was the first San Jose Police Officer killed in the line of duty.

After receiving numerous complaints regarding a problem building in an industrial area located in the 1600 block of Rogers Avenue, the SJPD Vice Unit began an extensive investigation, revealing an illegal, underground nightclub operating on the weekends. It was discovered that the illegal business operated without required permits, did not verify patrons' ages at the door, and charged admission for entry. This clandestine nightclub resulted in several calls for service, including assault with a deadly weapon. This isn't about going after unpermitted businesses, but targeting the source of violent crimes that can threaten public safety. The San Jose Police Department remains committed to addressing illegal businesses and activities that impact the safety and quality of life of our community members.

When you gotta go, you gotta go! But please don't go in public...Today, SJPD Patrol Officers on-viewed an adult male urinating in a parking lot, in addition to a vehicle code violation, and when attempting to make contact with the subject, he jumped into his vehicle. Officers prevented the vehicle from fleeing the scene and detained the subject. While conducting a pat search, Officers located a loaded firearm on his person. The firearm was discovered to have been reported stolen out of the city of Stockton. The suspect was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for multiple firearm-related crimes, and will now have a toilet to use while he's in jail.
