Look, I guess we’ll never know how it turned out, but I have a hard time believing the Batgirl movie was too bad to be released when this is the kind of energy and filmmaking technique these guys are displaying.
@blankcheckpod Guys, I have a confession. I fell for the Jumpin' Jack Flash Letterboxd log. 😂
I just had a baby boy and was keen to keep up with Blank Check, and saw David log it. Needless to say, I have now seen every Penny Marshall film. FFS.
Love the pod. Feel the fool.
I don't think anyone has really examined this yet, but the first time I've read anything that remotely speaks to this is, of all things, Sean Fennessey's Letterboxd review for the new TMNT film:

It's very US-centric but makes some interesting points.
I keep thinking about how it doesn't feel like there is a lot of millennial art, in the way that Boomers and Gen X had theirs.
I can actively point to the music/ cinema/ literature of previous generations; the key figureheads of those eras; and for my own I am mostly clueless.
‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ reportedly leans heavily towards being “mostly a jukebox musical.”
The film will include at least 15 covers of “very well-known” songs.

Last year I watched a bunch of Pakula films for the first time. The man has so many more bangers than you realise. A great filmmaker whose reputstion has faded with time, but so many greats now imitate him.
Vote Pakula
Up today in March Madness, you can choose between "All the Replicants. Man?" and "All the President's Men":
It's RIDLEY SCOTT PT I (1) vs ALAN J PAKULA (8).

Four Beatles biopics are on the way from director Sam Mendes – one for each band member – and he'll be working with their full life story and music rights.

@stefanrw1 Yep. Loved it. Bar The Holdovers, it's my fave film of the year so far. Efron and McCallany are so good. I'm actually surprised it hasn't done better at the awards. Agree with the edit, but those last 10 minutes are devastating.
rewatched SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (still a masterpiece of image, mood, and character) and thinking how if it were made today it would be a dimly lit mini-series where Hannibal and Clarice wouldn't meet until halfway through instead of in the first 15 minutes
Phenomenal actor. People will, deservedly talk a lot about THE FULL MONTY and MICHAEL CLAYTON, but his IN THE BEDROOM performance .ight be one of the best pieces of acting I've ever seen.
