Pavel and I at Dartmouth College Electron Microscopy Center using their nanoscale FIB and STEM imaging capabilities to understand the microstructure of our new vapor-deposited ultra-strong nano alloys.
Very happy to meet Dr. Pierre Hirel in person. Pierre is the author of the atomistic modeling software that my students at UVM have used for research and our Multiscale Modeling course.
I will be speaking at the 11th International Multiscale Materials Modeling conference in Prague today. Such a great place to meet colleagues from all over the world.
Pavel and I are attending the US Department of Energy's Mechanical Behavior and Radiation Effects Principal Investigators meeting organized in Gaithersburg MD this week.
Just ended the #TMS2004 symposium on short-range ordering organized by Prof. Yang Yang who invited me to present our research on solute ordering and grain boundary segregation in nanocrystalline alloys.
Very proud of UVM Mech Eng PhD student Chris Foley for presenting his research in the EBRL lab at the top Materials Research conference in Boston #F23MRS Additionally, Chris is this semester's TA for the Materials Engineering courses and studies in my Multiscale Modeling course!
Today marks the 20-year anniversary since attending my first Materials Research Society meeting in Boston. Always excited about it. En route to #F23MRS to give a talk on oxidation of nanocrystalline silicon-carbide for the extreme environment of space.
First atomic view of active oxidation as seen in high-temperature silicon-carbide materials.

Dr. Pavel Nikitin has completed his first 2 weeks as a new postdoctoral associate. His research focuses on grain boundary segregation and tensile ductility in nanocrystalline alloys using sputtering co-deposition and machine-learning-based atomistic simulations. Welcome Pavel!
Excited that our new DC magnetron sputter coater has arrived today! This will be our nanotechnology capability to make new nanostructured alloy materials.
A doctoral (PhD) research position in Computational Materials Science is still available in my research group! The start date is September 1, 2023 or earlier. Details about this position can be found in this link: https://t.co/LGTpHq7cpp
I have accepted a new Editorial role as Associate Editor for the Mechanics of Materials section of the journal Frontiers in Materials. I am looking forward to your manuscript submission!
Welcome to two new members in the Sansoz Lab, Edie Cay and Jess Laquerre, who will use microfabrication and electron microscopy techniques to study how grain boundary segregation engineering can change the microstructure and tensile deformability of nanocrystalline alloy films.
