Firefighters prevented a fire in a semi-detached townhome from spreading to the neighbouring unit in Kanata North this morning.

At approx. 08:44, the Ottawa Fire Services Communications Division received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting black smoke coming from the back of a two-storey semi-detached townhome in the 300 block of Glenbrae Ave. One of the 9-1-1 callers, a neighbour, reported that there were no cars in the laneway and that there was a dog inside the home. Firefighters arrived on scene 4min after being dispatched to the call and confirmed smoke and flames coming from the back of the townhome. Firefighters initiated a fast attack and advanced a hose line to the back of the home. A secondary crew began searching the home for any occupants. The flames had travelled up the entire backside of the home right up into the eavestrough and attic. Firefighters on the second floor of the home pulled down parts of the ceiling to extinguish the flames inside the attic. While searching the home, the dog was located and safely brought outside. Two full searches of the home were completed and no occupants were found inside. Firefighters took down pieces of the eavestrough and flashing on the outside of the home to extinguish the flames. The fire was declared under control at 09:23 and before it could spread to the attached townhome. High pressurized fans were used to ventilate the residual smoke out of the structure. Firefighters performed salvage operations putting tarps on the belongings inside to protect them from smoke and water damage. There are no reported injuries. An @OttFire Investigator has been dispatched to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire. #OttNews

Dear @DisneyPlus @DisneyJunior could you please adjust your Fire buds episodes to have an opening scene and a credit for every episode instead of every two episodes? Sincerely a mom of severely autistic toddler who melts down every episode when one is missing. @DisneyPlusHelp

My little guy has Autism and selective mutism, he won't speak around new people in/new situations. The fire fighters took a lot of time to chat with him, even if he couldn't respond. It's magical to see him engage with them and even got him talking! Thanks for an amazing day!!

[Sarah Stonier @SarahStonierRN]

Special thank you to @OttFire house 66!!! Amazing community breakfast and my little guy loved visiting your house and driving all your awesome vehicles. His favorite were Water Rescue 62 & ladder 66! 1/2

Kids are brutally honest. It's why I love working in pediatrics.

@OttFire He was absolutely covered in ice cream 🤣🤣 so we didn't think you would appreciate that, and It appeared most of the staff or all of the staff were inside having dinner so we didn't want to bother them. But next time!!!

My severely Autistic toddler is obsessed with fire trucks. We were so excited to see @OttFire station #42 with their doors open tonight so we could check out their "Fire engine! Aerial!" As he tells me 😂.

A fellow nurse who works at a #newbrunswick hospital sent this to me last night. 2 unbroken IV pole on her whole, floor, no pumps, this is how she had to run medication. This is why nurses are leaving. @premierbhiggs @NBNU_SIINB DO BETTER!

[Elmo @elmo]

Elmo got the COVID vaccine today, just like Elmo's mommy and daddy! Elmo's daddy had a lot of questions, but Elmo's doctor said the vaccine would help keep Elmo healthy, and all of Elmo's friends and family too! #CaringForEachOther

(3/3)For any American, if you ever need an abortion, please send me a message. I will bring you here, I will help you access safe reproductive care in a dignified way that you deserve from your country and you are not getting. #AbortionRightsAreHumanRights #AbortionIsEssential

[Sarah Stonier @SarahStonierRN]

(1/?) Literally crying about the news from the States that Roe V Wade has been overturned. Every woman deserves safe and equitable access to reproductive health, including abortions. #AbortionRightsAreHumanRights #AbortionIsEssential #abortionrights

[Sarah Stonier @SarahStonierRN]

(2/?) All this does is take away safe and equitable access to low income women, marginalized women, women in abusive relationships,& BIPOC women. Rich, white, and middle class women will still get abortions. Overturning this ruling will kill women. #AbortionRightsAreHumanRights
