Won a Trump +13 city by 1 vote.
Independent voters make up a larger segment of the population than ever: ~45% nationally. They’re not happy with the GOP and holding their nose for Dems.
Independents and third parties must meet the moment. If you think you have good ideas, run for something local. @LPNational@LP_CLC

When Democrats warned us about Trump being dangerous, I agreed with them. Which is why I wish they had used their power to make the presidency safer no matter who sits in it.
No matter who we support, Democrat or Republican, we all deserve a government where the stakes of one election don’t feel existential. Shrinking executive power should be a bipartisan priority in the federal government and in every state.
After 2020 Democrats had all the tools at their disposal to reign in the executive office. After 2022 They could’ve Trump-proofed the office with bipartisan support. But it wasn’t a priority. When 2024 rolled around, Democrats warned of authoritarianism — but never bothered to dismantle the authoritarian tools.
It shouldn’t matter very much who the executive is. That’s the real problem. It shouldn’t be the voters job to save democracy from the government.
If every four years voters are expected to save the country from a bad president, it’s a symptom of constitutional rot. The problem isn’t the person in the office, it’s how bloated the office has become.
And I’m watching this happen in Florida. People are arguing about the next governor as if a governor can ruin the state of Florida. The problem is, they can. In recent years, Floridians have handed so much power to that office that it really matters now who sits in that chair. That is a systemic problem with governance.
The president shouldn’t be able to affect the economy with a tweet. The governor shouldn’t be able to affect university curriculum with a viral meme. If voters are smart (doubtful), they will stop voting on every single policy position or the next populist who promises to push their priorities through—and start voting for constitutional restraint.

We can’t lose focus on what matters – right now, Republicans in Texas are trying to gerrymander district lines to unfairly win five seats in next year’s midterm elections. This is a power grab that undermines our democracy.
Independence Day is a reminder that America is not the project of any one person. The single most powerful word in our democracy is the word ‘We.’ ‘We The People.’ ‘We Shall Overcome.’ ‘Yes We Can.’ America is owned by no one. It belongs to all citizens. And at this moment in history—when core democratic principles seem to be continuously under attack, when too many people around the world have become cynical and disengaged—now is precisely the time to ask ourselves tough questions about how we can build our democracies and make them work in meaningful and practical ways for ordinary people.
More than 16 million Americans are at risk of losing their health care because Republicans in Congress are rushing to pass a bill that would cut federal funding for Medicaid and weaken the Affordable Care Act.
If the House passes this bill, it will increase costs and hurt working class families for generations to come. Call your representative today and tell them to vote no on this bill.
