"No, I don't subscribe to this 'kindness' - I'll tell the truth instead."
I spoke at the Cambridge Union last night about LGBs, children's safety and women's rights. Full video here:
The words you never forget: “I’m afraid it could be cancer”. On hearing this news - affected deeply by my brother’s premature death - I acted quickly & was lucky. So today I’m adding my name to the campaign calling for a prostate cancer screening programme. https://t.co/p1UUekL9iY
Just devastating. Charlie Kirk did so much to shape conservative politics, and engage young people of every political persuasion in democracy.
Anyone who heard him saw his decency, and civility. He engaged in the argument, and sought to explore and explain, getting those who disagreed with him to challenge themselves too.
Whilst we have all lost one of the great minds and communicators of our time, that pales to what Charlie’s family has lost.
Thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this most agonising time.
I hope the coward who committed this awful act is brought to justice, and suffers for the remainder of their time on this earth.
I try to stay out of local Burnley Politics, but the below - from a sitting Burnley Councillor - is disgusting.
Charlie Kirk was shot dead less than 24 hours ago. His crime - being a conservative voice.
He leaves behind a wife and young family, including 2 children, and this hard-left councillor of Corbyn style politics, says he “brought this upon himself”. She should hang her head in shame, and do the decent thing by resigning from office.
Ed has been a fantastic minister and shadow SoS, he was a significant help during the Pandemic for Lancashire and will be sorely missed. Wishing him a very speedy recovery!
As he prepares for his last parliamentary oral questions from the front bench, I want to put on record my sincere thanks to Ed Argar for serving in my Shadow Cabinet.
I wish him the very best for a speedy recovery and return to full health, and so I will be making a few changes to my front bench later today.
Today the Assisted Suicide Bill committee voted to REMOVE the key safeguard in the Bill that MPs approved at Second Reading in November: the High Court judge who was to decide each application for an assisted death. 1/
This is unforgivable. We are paying billions that we don't have to a country that was already paid for renouncing its claim in the first place. We are betraying both Western interests and the Chagossian people.
What next? Throw in the Isle of Wight, too?

Yes @jessphillips I wasn’t at the debate yesterday, I was at the hospital.
Your colleagues know I’ve been away from Parliament for medical reasons, but you chose to attack me.
So much for standing by women.
Our Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Women spoke and did an excellent job.
This 3 day thing is ridiculous - what are these MPs going to do when Labour finally start putting legislation on the table instead of lots of general debates?
The job is intense yes, and hard and requires sacrifice. But that is what we signed up for and it is a privilege.
Thank you @RishiSunak
The PM who fulfilled my levelling up commitment, with over 40 million coming to H&H. We will never forget what you did for our home
