BREAKING: More than 900 popular movements, unions, political parties, and other organizations have signed an open letter calling on states to support South Africa's Genocide Convention case against Israel.
Good question. The bill would let the government grant exemptions for specific countries (e.g. they said they’ll grant an exemption to allow councils to boycott Russia) without having to repeal the legislation.
But unless the entire bill is repealed, then they won’t be able to provide an exemption to allow councils to boycott Israel- the only country in the world that would have this special protection.
The anti-boycott bill is back in the House of Commons today for its third and final reading. There are so many things wrong with it but let’s talk quickly about Section 3.7.
When this bill was introduced back in June, we said that S3.7 was so dangerous because it’s permanent.
The anti-boycott bill is about stopping public institutions from ethically choosing where they wish to invest. And it is about silencing those public institutions and any criticism of Israel they have. 🤐
We will not be silenced. 📣
Tonight MPs voted on the Anti-Boycott Bill, which bans public bodies from making ethical decisions and specifically shields Israel from criticism.
Had it been in place in the 1980s, it would have banned councils from supporting the anti-apartheid movement.
I voted against it.
I’ve just voted against the Anti-Boycott Bill.
From not investing in fossil fuel companies or the arms industry, to tackling human rights abuses or breaches of international law, public bodies should have the right to make investment decisions informed by ethical considerations.
Izzeddin was 16y in 2018 when an Israeli sniper shot him in the leg during a Great Return March protest in Gaza. Izzeddin was a refugee from 1948. He lost his leg and forever was to live as a cripple. We wanted to get him walking again so he could finish school.
Everyday we ask our friends and colleagues in #Gaza if they’re alive. A simple text. Are you still alive. Today the silence from Izzeddin Nawasra was heartbreaking - He was murdered in an airstrike on his home in the Maghazi refugee camp last night. Here’s his story.

So infuriating and telling. #KhalidaJarrar was meant to be on a teach in re “#Prisons &incarceration” today but was kidnapped from her home by occupation forces on Mon morning. The teach in will continue to share the conditions that make this story emblematic of Pal life #Gaza
I've been asked am I Middle Eastern or Arab and what's my connection to the conflict. I'm a pale white guy from Ireland, living in NYC, who sees a genocide happening and wants to stop it. Anyone can join this fight
and given that this campaign by the German state has included the summary and illegal dismissal of Arab journalists by Deutsche Welle in blatant violation of freedom of the press, I am unable to cooperate with Deutsche Welle in good conscience.
Had a wonderful evening attending @ReactJSgirls London. Three fantastic talks.
I'd recommend watching the videos later!
Met many new people during the break.
Thanks @ReactJSgirls Elham Khani, Beth Swingler
@rachelnabors 👏🏼
Attended a brilliant workshop on designing adaptive reusable components & pages. @WalterStephanie broke down the processes into clear steps, guided us in groups to implement each step.
I now have such a clear understanding of the whole end to end process. 🎉
@WeyWeyWeb Hey, is the morning workshop with @WalterStephanie in room 115 like yesterday's workshop or somewhere else? I can't find the @WeyWeyWeb team.
