Let’s talk Kick viewership and this is going to be a hot take -
Kick, Twitch, YouTube, TikTok … doesn’t matter the streaming source … is going to have people that bot with viewers and chat bots. This will continue to happen and likely will never go away.
Steps Kick is taking by reducing KPP pay for people that bot or even removing their KPP is a huge step to keeping Kick profitable.
Now here’s my hot take - I think a huge indicator that Kick should look into is active subs and direct subs. Yes, chat engagement is a huge indicator but people like myself (30+ years old) don’t typically type in chat. Not because I don’t want to support my favorite streamers, but I’d rather sit back and watch than comment every minute.
I personally built my community around people who are 21+ because I cuss, drink, and say off-the-wall shit that the younger generations might not like to watch. With that being said … the community I built supports me with subs and buying products I push. Granted, not everyone is going to have the money to support their favorite streamers, but the numbers don’t lie. Some of the biggest streamers on other platforms have higher sub counts because they have huge communities. This should be true with Kick too.
I’m a creator that averages 3k+ subs every month and around 200 viewers per stream. Yet, you see bigger creators in the thousands that average way fewer subs but higher engagement. This could be one of two reasons … they have a younger viewership or they are chat and view botting.
However, if you go to Twitch and see people with the same view counts as some of these bigger streamers on Kick … their subs are way lower. Again, this could be said they are chat and view botting. With AI, this is only going to become more advanced and really the only true indicator is going to be sub counts and not 10+ percent engagement.
Don’t get me wrong - I’ve been botted before. This could have been by people that want me to lose my KPP or a viewer that thinks it could help me. If this ever happens I message Kick and they remove the bots quickly.
I’ve watched some big streamers on Kick and most of their engagement is emote reactions or chat bots that say the same thing over and over. They do this to keep their engagement higher because that is what Kick is paying attention to. However, I think it’s time Kick pays attention to other ways to spot people botting especially with the continued advancement of AI.
Again, this is my personal opinion and what I’ve noticed as a streamer and a frequent viewer.
