@stackerco We have not been going to second hour very often over the last few months. The missionaries just happen to be in our area every 3-4 weeks or so now. After about it 7 years of never coming by. So it begins.
@HolyOak1957@ThoughtfulSaint Yes. I doubt there is any religion that has as much service hours put in per capita than the church. I think it would be a for statement for the church to say we have an unpaid local ministry.
@DerekR82244@PeterBarry25059@Tsar_Martyr Incorrect
I am confused why you are arguing facts of the English language that are explicit in the dictionary. This isn’t a theological opinion. It’s just how those words are defined in the English language.
No. If someone doesn’t think it’s possible to know for a fact that god exists but is still convinced enough by the evidence to believe he exists, they would be an agnostic theist. If thought that’s possible to know god exists and they also believe he exists they would be agnostic theist.
One is defining your thoughts in knowledge the other is defining your beliefs.
For me personally, I don't think we currently have enough information available to us to know factually that there is a god. (Agnostic)
And with what information I have seen, it is not enough for me to convincingly hold a belief that there is one. (Atheist)
They are not two conflicting views, they are measuring different things.
@DerekR82244@PeterBarry25059@Tsar_Martyr So do I:
Websters:
"Atheist: A person who does not believe in the existence of God or any gods"
"Agnostic: A person who holds the view that any ultimate reality (such as a supreme being) is unknown and probably unknowable"
Do you have a different dictionary?
Common vernacular sees the word agnostic to mean someone doesn't know if there is a god, but the actual definition is slightly different.
Most atheists are "agnostic atheists". That means they do not think its possible to "know" that god does or doesn't exist (agnostic), and are not convinced that god exists (atheist).
A gnostic atheist thinks it is possible to know if there is a god (gnostic) and is not convinced there is a god (atheist).
You can also be an agnostic theist and gnostic theist.
If an gnostic atheist makes the claim that there is no god, then I would agree that it is a claim that I do not think they could demonstrate, just as I dont think a gnostic theist could.
Most atheists do not claim to know there is no god.
If someone stops believing in God what is the motivation to pray to him? Do you still write letters to Santa?
It seems like members think people stop praying and THEN lose their faith. Typically they lose their faith first and then have no reason to pray anymore. Same with word of wisdom. I don't know many exmos that started drinking while they still believed. Members perceive this as leaving to sin, because they see it in reverse order.
@emuse1955 If you want to see a balanced view of what is reliable in that book I suggest Dan Vogels commentary on mormonism unveiled

@surskitmaxxing@ThoughtfulSaint Jacob’s arguments usually just reinforce atheism.
I don’t know if he realizes that he is often doing more to point out the absurdity in all religion rather than defending his own.
