You are too immature to decide whether to have a cigarette or a pint, and you're not even allowed to finish education or training, but at 16 you are old enough to decide how the country should be governed?
@LeighMilnerTV@BBCNews I do get fed up with successful people droning on about their humble beginnings. Upward social mobility in Britain is very common! There is nothing amazing about it. We live in a meritocracy where ability and hard work pay off. socialmobilitytruths.pdf
@LBC @MercyMuroki Well, I never falsified my CV, and I don't think any of my friends and colleagues did either. Has lying to prospective employers become normalised and acceptable since I retired?
"Former German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt has accused EU officials of risking war with Russia by displaying "megalomania" in Ukraine" (BBC report 16 May 2014). Some people have short memories.
@RonManners Maybe he remembers ex-German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt warning (BBC report, 16 May 2014) that EU officials were risking war with Russia by displaying "megalomania" in Ukraine?
@profsked BBC report 16 May 2014 (after elected Ukraine President ousted): "Former German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt has accused EU officials of risking war with Russia by displaying "megalomania" in Ukraine". https://t.co/MWdslVqex1. Was Schmidt too 'idiotic'?
@DavidGauke@Nigel_Farage Ukraine elected a pro-Russia President (Viktor Yanukovych) who was deposed by Kiev demonstrators (with EU backing) in 2014. At the time, BBC reported ex-SDP German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt warning EU they were risking war with Russia by displaying "megalomania" in Ukraine.
@prwhittle But they want jail! They crave martyrdom. Better to hit them with punishments they don't want: 200 hrs community service cleaning graffiti from public buildings; a big fine (with sequestration of assets or income to pay it); and a 5-year ban from any UK college or uni enrollment.
@LeeHurstComic She justifies her choice of school by saying "I will never apologise for doing the best for my kids."
So opting for a selective school = "the best" option, in her view.
Yet she opposes selective education.
It defies parody.
Dear Lordy. I've found a new one.
"Crafting counter-hegemony: using porcelain to interrogate constructed ideologies of whiteness and empire"
We funded this.
@TalkTV@JuliaHB1 But Julia, by denying these beliefs are 'right-wing' you are endorsing the demonisation of the term. Pro-family, pro-law and order, pro-borders, pro-low tax, etc ARE 'right wing' policies (which socialists hate). What's wrong with embracing that?
@montie I think it's because Lab activists are ideologically-driven, but many Con activists are pragmatists. When Lab fails to deliver, activists double-down ("we weren't sufficiently socialist"), but when Conservatism stops delivering, they defect to an alternative they hope might work
