In Feb of this year, I thought I had everything. An enviable remote job at a โsure-to-be-the-next-googleโ startup. I traveled 4 countries in 3 months. Met some amazing people along the way. I was well on my way to making my first $100k within a few years. 1/n
@therabbithole@paulg The Asian work ethic cannot be discounted. But it is no coincidence that the better performers are migrants.
They believed in the American dream, worked for it, and had it.
@therabbithole@paulg Also important to consider is that it's usually the best & the most ambitious that migrate to the US. They obviously hold a higher propensity to succeed.
Whichever side you are on, the well-reasoned discourse & poised conduct in the highest court despite inefficiencies is a testimony of hope #samesexmarriage
Kudos to CJI Chandrachud for keeping it transparent

@Phantomsby@oldbooksguy I wanted to add this to the original tweet. Absolutely, Mars is Elon's Gulch. All that flying to Gulch resembles Elon's effort to get to Mars.
@MartinSjog@_TikiTorture@brucefenton@vagrantcrypto I agree here. Dubai is still a better option for low-skilled laborers from 3rd world countries.
West has completely blocked any legal migration despite its role in several crises in Asia+Dubai doesn't pretend to be a free open-to-all country like the West.
@MtRushmore2016 Absolutely, I was warned. I turned away. Now I've had a stronger wake-up call and I can already see why it is best for me. Thanks for your 2 cents :)

@oldbooksguy I often wonder if Elon Musk is playing Henry Rearden and Satoshi as John Galt from Atlas Shrugged.
Besides, Ayn Rand's resentment of mediocrity is so deep & passionate, it makes you want to excel or perish. A life-changing author for me.
@MartinSjog@_TikiTorture@brucefenton@vagrantcrypto Definitely, poverty is cruel. But they are trading one form of cruelty for another.
They could migrate to more friendly cities that promise not just money but also a future, say Singapore/Malaysia, which brings us to the point that Dubai is not a great city.
@MartinSjog@_TikiTorture@brucefenton@vagrantcrypto True, but doesnโt really make Dubai a great city.
20 years of their adult lives spent like zombies. Their children donโt remember their faces and they have no place to call home.
@Mistykat5@harari_yuval It's never going to be AI vs Humans.
Tech dev always had competition. But with AI, the progress made by a few with it will be unmatched.
Imagine 1000x Nuclear Weapon+1000x IQ as your ally & no competition. You'll be king. AI won't take over, it has no purpose without humans.
@MartinSjog@_TikiTorture@brucefenton@vagrantcrypto The lives of most taxi drivers in Dubai are miserable.
They don't see their family for 3-5 years at least. And most don't come back once they leave unless they're trapped in some debt.
