The famous #NorthVancouver cedar tree has been saved!🌲@DarwinConstr has answered the calls of the community and @SaveOurCedarCNV and redesigned the building to accommodate the beloved conifer! 👏❤️https://t.co/lPMJJYcNBc
“As more people move to the city and call it home, we will continue to need housing and public infrastructure, as well as green space. We must commit to both," says

The Save Our Cedar petition has been signed by 20,000 people! This is an amazing and clear message from the community - @DarwinConstr keep this cedar in the ground. Let's keep signing and sharing: https://t.co/V0ScEN172m
Until we receive a confirmation from Darwin that the cedar is safe we will continue to be at the tree everyday, and we need everyone to stay involved and keep the pressure on Darwin and the City to do the right thing.
UPDATE - we have heard from Darwin!
This afternoon, we received an email from Oliver Webbe, President of @DarwinConstr: “we continue to work with the City of North Vancouver, together with the Building Engineer and Arborist, to identify all possible solutions...
This is amazing news and it is only possible because of this community - the 19,000 people who have signed and shared the petition, local residents who have stood at the tree from 7am every morning for two weeks in the pouring rain, and the kids who have come to hug the tree.
@guytro@tonyvalente_ca Absolutely @guytro - there are thousands of local residents involved in this campaign who many for the first time are getting active in nature protection! And will be ready and raring to be funnelled into old growth protection across the province 💚
Thank you @tonyvalente_ca for meeting with our group tonight at the cedar tree. We appreciate you coming to listen to us and acknowledging the passion of the community!
We know @DarwinConstr are listening (even if they're not replying!) and our pressure is working, but we can't back down until they make clear commitments to save our tree! Please sign our petition and help us spread the word. Not one more tree. https://t.co/V0ScEN172m
Update Wed 23rd March: We have heard that Darwin plans on updating the community by Thursday this week. This will be the first time we've heard anything from Darwin. #SaveOurCedar
Yesterday, an arborist came to the tree to take measurements for 'a client'. We are unsure whether this is good or bad news for our ancient cedar. #SaveOurCedar
So happy to read these words from North Van Councillor @tonyvalente_ca. We are determined to see bylaw changes in the city to protect ancient trees like this one. Thank you to all councillors who have supported our growing community movement.
@tonyvalente_ca Thank you @tonyvalente_ca this means a lot, we are excited to work with you to ensure this doesn't happen again. We need bylaws that protect ancient trees like this, because as you mention, it's not just our cedar under threat. Change is possible when communities work together!
