@BCLionsDen It might be tough with unions and current costs. The end game for Whitecaps has to be the sponsorships that come with controlling the stadium. And it’s totally fair if they’re willing to take on the costs and risks and the Lions are not. Nothing unfair about that.
@BCLionsDen CFL has a very healthy audience for their numbers. The only way for MLS to get to the audience that they also need is more investment in top players, and that’s going to require the business end to work, like the rest of the world.
@BCLionsDen And ppl have loved Müller, for example. That’s just a drop in the bucket. If North America, and Vancouver specifically, wants to enjoy top players, it takes big business. And soccer when done right is a BIG business, even at this level.
@BCLionsDen@arpan_on_BC It’s a risk/reward. They could make significantly more revenue, especially from partnerships, but you take on a lot more cost as well. Not worth the risk for Lions and their payroll and costs. Basically a necessary risk for Whitecaps with theirs.
@dundatt1989@CascadiaDream@HarJournalist Because pavco have a huge gap to pay off their capital costs and the way they’re running the stadium it will take 84 years to pay off
@BCSportsNetwrk With all due respect, I checked out your website and it really just sounds like more 24/7 hockey. Unfortunately I wouldn’t be interested in that, and I’m not sure you’d get more than the 2,100 ppl average audience that 650 was getting with that either.
@aftncanada@RoarReport@blake3653@BenSteiner00@risingaction The Lions would have to be willing to take on the costs and the associated risks. They don’t, they’re happy to be tenants. Let’s let someone run the stadium more effectively.
@LorrieForseth@CascadiaDream@RobTheHockeyGuy I don’t think the Lions have any interest in taking on the costs that come with controlling the stadium. The Whitecaps do. It comes with risk, but possibly huge reward. Simple as that really.
@BCLionsDen@vancansea@ChrisKFilms I think the Whitecaps would take on both control and the costs that come with it. It sounds like the Lions have absolutely zero interest in this. They’re happy to be tenants. The Whitecaps would be taking a big risk to do this, but one they believe would benefit all parties.
The people who were saying for months “I heard they’re already gone”… you were grossly misinformed.
These are not the actions of an ownership group looking to leave #VWFC
Vancouver Whitecaps FC have reportedly submitted a formal proposal to the Government of BC to take over the operations of BC Place Stadium.
A potential temporary solution, until a new soccer-specific stadium is built by the club. #bcpoli#vanpoli

ppl saying the Whitecaps would raise prices… I think the insane prices are a huge issue on the whole BCP situation to begin with
It would not surprise me in the least if the Whitecaps believed that they could increase revenue by LOWERING prices and scaling UP #VWFC
@Den_Moren@WhitecapsFC@MLS I don’t think stopping buying tickets is the answer here. That sounds like what happened to Montreal Expos 🪦
If we want to have a chance to keep the team, need to continue to show strong fan support. Then that puts the powers that be in a really tough spot. It’s the only way .
