A Missouri mother, Mariah Thomas, 28, has pleaded guilty after putting her one month old daughter, Za’Riah Mae, inside a hot oven, resulting in the baby’s de@th.

Thomas accepted a plea deal on Tuesday, nearly three years after she was detained over the February 2024 incident.

According to court records, Thomas pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of end@ngering the welfare of a child resulting in de@th, in exchange for prosecutors dropping the m¥rder charge.

She was sentenced to 13 years in prison, with credit for time already spent in custody, meaning she is expected to serve about 11 more years.

At the time of the incident, Thomas reportedly told investigators that she had intended to put her daughter down for a nap but accidentally placed her in the oven instead of the crib,according to a probable cause affidavit.

Police said the infant suffered severe b¥rns, with her clothing reportedly melting from the heat. She was pronounced de@d at the scene.

A friend of Thomas’s previously described Za’Riah Mae as a bubbly baby who was smiling all the time.

The plea deal has drawn attention because Thomas originally faced a m¥rder charge over the tragic de@th.

Nigerian Cleric On The Run After Body Is Found B¥ried In His Church in Cameroon

A Nigerian cleric wanted by Cameroonian authorities has gone into hiding after a mu%%ified body was discovered b+ried beneath a concrete slab at a property linked to his church in Yaoundé.

Cameroon Tribune reported that the body was found on September 19 at about 9am by officers of the Nkoabang Special Police Station during an investigation involving Kedi Samuel Kenechukwu, also known as Ekedi Samuel, founder of Mercy of God Ministry.

Investigators reportedly uncovered a white and gold coffin buried about 1.5 metres beneath a concrete slab at the Nkoabang property. Inside was a body believed at first sight to be that of a woman, dressed in a traditional blue outfit with gold embroidery and in a state of mummification.

“The lid is broken. Inside, a body, a lady at first sight, dressed in a traditional blue outfit with gold embroidery, in a state of mummification, rests on a padding. This is not a normal grave,” Cameroon Tribune reported.

The discovery followed v@ndalism by residents, which exposed parts of the property and led investigators to the concealed underground area. Authorities were awaiting authorisation for further searches for possible additional remains.

The identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the de@th remain unknown.

The discovery came about 10 days after investigators searched the same property on September 9, finding five vehicles, several hundred kilogrammes of food, functioning freezers, about 30 rooms and a twometre deep pit.

Earlier, on September 6, security operatives reportedly found 20 people  10 women, eight men and two children aged six and seven  in a basement at another property linked to the ministry in Ngousso, Yaoundé.
