Gestation for a horse is one year. Black Caviar had 9 foals in the 11 years since she was retired. This means she was constantly pregnant. A milk infection - ie mastitis - lead to sepsis - lead to laminitis and she had to be euthanised BUT only after birthing her 9th foal. This is absolutely disgusting. Horses live to 25yrs on average but if well cared for
up to 40yrs. Black Caviar was only 18. She was bred to an early death due to the greed of her owners. Sickening. #blackcaviar
