About 9 years ago, I played in my first competitive tournament since college.
It was a U.S. Open Qualifier.
In my warmup, suddenly, I started sh*nking shot after shot. I turned around and looked at my buddy from college, who was caddying for me, with sheer horror on my face.
And he didn't look any more confident.
So I went to the first tee, absolutely terrified.
I hit the worst duck hook, which did not make me feel any better.
Then I went on to play pretty well and shot a 74. No sh*nks.
So I thought, "Wow, I want to start playing in tournaments again. This is awesome!!!"
So I signed up for another qualifier at a course that was only 6,100 yards. Figured I would tear it apart.
Sh*nked 4 wedges and shot an 84.
Totally demoralized and terrified for the rest of the summer.
You never know what's going to happen in this game π€·ββοΈ
Either way, it was a great learning experience, and I use it to this day whenever I compete.
Stay humble. Get experience.
